    Hi guys,

I recently bought a 2006 Tacoma and it is now getting stuck in park (unless I press the manual overide button), the ABS and traction control lights are on and the brake lights dont work.

I replaced the brake light switch, no change.

I've just checked and the STOP fuse is blown (Stop lights, high mounted stop light, vehicle stability control system, anti-lock brake system, shift lock system, multiport fuel injection system/sequential multiport fuel injection system, towing converter).
When I replace the fuse I can get it out of park and the brake lights work, but it stalls when i take my foot off the brake pedal. It does not do this with the old bad fuse/no fuse.

    Any suggestions?

The previous owner had done a bunch of electric work himself (aftermarket headlights and tailights, light bar, 4 spot lights and a sub behind the rear seat), could this be causing anything?

Interestingly he was also using a 15A fuse instead of the recommended 10A in the STOP fuse.

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Cheers

Can you keep it running if you feather the gas pedal?

Not good that they had a bigger fuse in there, that suggests they were having issues with the fuse blowing and instead of finding the problem they put in a bigger fuse which is never a good idea. Hopefully they didn't fry any wiring doing that.

If your truck has a stop relay.
Pull the relay and see what happens.

No it still stalls when I feather the throttle. Seems fine when I switch to D or R though. Only stall in P and N when I take my foot off the brake

Tried that and it's still the same issue as when I have no STOP fuse in. Stuck in park, no brake lights, ABS or traction control. But drives and doesn't stall.

Someone mentioned that it could be that I replaced the brake light switch with a non OEM one. Could this cause an issue?

The switch has 4 pins, I guess 2 go to the brake lights? What would the other 2 go to? ECU?

    Thanks

That is quite interesting, I'm not really sure what we should go after. Is it setting any codes?

The stop switch has redundant circuits for the ECM.

Pin 1 (Blue) Normally Open goes to the stop lights and ECM
Pin 2 (Green/White) is Power from the STOP Fuse (Hot at all times)
Pin 3 (Orange) is Power from the IGN Fuse (Hot in Run & Start)
Pin 4 (Violet/White) Normally Closed is a redundant circuit to the ECM

I have a few codes currently, but I think it's an unrealted issue. I have P0102 (Mass or Volume Air Circuit Low Input) and all 4 O2 sensors have 'Oxygen Sensor Heater Control Circuit Low' or 'Oxygen sensor heater (rear) open'

I cleaned the MAF sensor the other day and I've just put a bottle of Cat/emissions cleaner in the tank. It also has a K&N air filter installed which I'm going to replace with an OEM one.

So it seems that it’s an issue with the aftermarket tail lights.

I disconnected both tail lights and that made it so I can get out of park. And also the ABS light turned off.

But the traction control lights are still on.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers!
