Alright, I have an update....

I've found that there are many multiple suppliers of the Hamilton style units, and apparently Hamilton just rebrands a generic model from the many Chinese ones, as I have seen them all over Aliexpress.

I purchased one from Aliexpress for $172, removed the lower resolution one and installed the newer unit. The resolution is better and the brightness and contrast is nice.

Pros:
Resolution and brightness - uses the full resolution of the unit
Sound - Much better than the simpler unit

Cons:
Install is more work, simple, but yes, more work
Have to remove XM Radio unit if you have it
Does not auto start into Android Auto/Carplay - must press home button every time
Uses phone pick up button instead of the voice command button on the steering wheel to initiate Google assistant/Siri
Phone bluetooth must connect to radio and decoder unit

Overall, I am going to keep the newer unit. The older one was very simple to install and easier to use, everything was automatically initiated. The resolution and contrast does help a bit for night driving. This unit may be different from others and they may be able to autostart, which would have been very nice.

Feel that. Would have been cool to flex my past-life moderate/low grade climbing escapades to uninterested passengers but my emotional security bottle travels with me basically every where I go, I drink like a camel, and I was tired of the damned thing rolling around every time I made a turn, so there goes $50 bucks in AJT's pocket.

And not one of those inconsiderate pricks at Toyota thought it wise to make just one of them sized for their outdoors-folk!

I don't think I have enough cupholders for that.

 

13 for the automatics (hadn't paid attention to the MT's), 14 if you count the square coin thing in front of cupholder in the console and use it to hold a drink, I use it also... So yes, I have 14 cupholders... lol
But yeah, the door pocket cupholders are smaller, but hold my drinks great...

I could use smaller cup holders, my Dr Pepper 16.9oz flops around while driving, but it is defiantly easier to make one smaller than bigger.. lol

All a friend can say, is ain't it a shame.

 

Taco was under 12 months old and under 2K miles when service was performed. Don't know if any Tacos came from the factory with LT rated tires.
