Extended warranty is good advice. "These trucks have a lot of issues" is complete nonsense.

Almost every Tacoma 3.5 has timing chain cover leaks and crossover pipe leaks sooner or later. Toyota has known this for eight years and never corrected it. So I would call that an issue.

Tacomas are pretty reliable with some issues but a lot less than other makes/models despite what some have said here.
Saying a dealership doesn't know other makes is also not true.
Companies make it a business to know their competition.
People that work in the auto business move around and many have worked for virtually all manufacturers.
Suggest checking the basics yourself and if your serious ask to take it to an independent shop for an inspection. If they say no, I would walk. You'll have to pay for inspection.

I purchased my Tacoma from a Honda dealership. They seemed to have a whole side business in Toyota trucks. They actually had a lot of relatively new used ones for sale and I think most of them were trade ins. Its not that weird or a bad sign. I don't understand people who only keep a truck for 2 years before selling but there seem to be a lot of them and if you are a must have a new vehicle type of person the reliability advantages of owning a Toyota aren't a big benefit.

It sounds like the truck might be just barely under the original 5year power train warranty so if you notice any major power train issues Toyota will fix them. Check the original sale date of the truck though to be sure. The warranty does transfer to the new owner when sold.

The OR trim is definitely the way to go with a used Tacoma. They actually beefed up a lot of things on the OR's and they have had fewer recalls than the base models because of it. Most of the recall fixes over the years have involved putting OR parts onto the truck.

What did they beef up on the OR vs other trims? They're all basically identical mechanically, the OR just has the bigger 3rd member for the locker and the different brake booster setup vs SR, SR5, Limited etc.

TRD trucks are all SR5's even according to Toyota's internal model naming codes.

I havn't seem a comprehensive list but keep running across more and more little things. The OR has different cab mount bushings and the TSB for diff whine specs switching the truck to them to better isolate the cab. The OR also has frame differences with several extra pieces to beef it up. Some years (might have been second gen) used a different rear leaf spring on the OR which again was the fix when there was a recall on the non OR leaf springs. Better shocks. The beefier rear diff that you mentioned although it isn't just because of the locker as I believe the MTs also have the bigger rear diff and there are 3rd party lockers that will fit the smaller base model diffs. The beefed up brake booster setup you mentioned, also the beefed up cooling and alternator that go with the tow package that it includes. I know there were more little things that I have run into but can't think of them at the moment.

here's the ad. It's the lowest price DCLB TRD OR anywhere near me.

Has PPF up front, body looks great, I couldn't see any evidence of the damage or repair to the rear drivers side. It seems to be well cared for but I didn't get under it or put a flashlight under the hood.

If someone buys it out from under me this weekend, well, let me know how it works out.

Suspension is the biggest difference between OR and standard SR5. You can clearly tell the difference when you drive both of them.

Great color! Good price, don't expect it to be sitting on the lot very long.

That is a good price. The long beds are hard to find on the west coast. Frame rust would be my biggest concern. Don't be afraid to crawl under it. Also you will see some rust covered parts as there is some unpainted steel on the truck but you don't want anything significant on the frame.

Frames are identical on all trims. Auxiliary ATF cooler has been gone since 2019 in the two package. Rear diff whine TSB applied to all double cab 4x4 trucks between certain years (there's been a few of those TSB's since 2016).

Leaf springs are different part #'s depending on trim tho.. OR and Pro have their own part number.

The frame differences may apply to all 4x4s and not just ORs but they definitely have some different bolted on frame braces and crossmembers.

The ATF cooler is integrated into the radiator and there is also a power steering cooler and an oil cooler although I don't know if any of these were added to non tow package models at any point.

I wouldn’t pay over $32K because of diminished value. My 2 cents.
