My names Pauly thank you for having me. I'm looking to buy a regular cab 2014 tacoma base model. Has 81k miles for 19,998$ from carmax. Is this a good deal. Really always wanted a tacoma and it seems these pickups sell a bit pricey because they don't make single cabs anymore. Is 2014 a good year for tacoma?

Way too much for a 2wd IMO.

Is that a reliable year though? It's hard to find a good price on a single cab with anything less than a 100k on it.

Through my own research in the past I have read that the later end of the 2nd gen tacomas (2013-2015) are generally considered to be some of the more reliable ones. But what ever you do don't buy with out checking the frame. As reliable as they can be mechanically they do have frame corrosion issues. Also I think that price is a little high considering it's not a 4x4.

Yea it is expensive. But I really can't find a single cab for less. Everything so expensive today carmax drives up their prices but I've heard positive things about their warranty. Thanks I oughtta... I'll be sure to check the frame. Ima run it by a trusted mechanic if I do decide to get it. Thanks for replying to monkey butt

Answering your question, yes, I think 2014 is a solid year for the Tacoma. The later the year in the generation typically yields the best version of that generation. Hope the sale works out for you. Welcome to the forum!

    2013 Tacoma SR5 Access cab
I would suggest looking at small and large dealerships directly. I just bought a 2013 SR5 Access cab 4wd with 64K miles for $19000 from a dealer where it had been traded in. I looked for about 3 months before I bought. CarMax had one or two ok deals, but there were better listings on other sites. Autotrader.com, Cars.com, CarGurus.com, and Carvana.com all had a lot of decent listings including some trucks that I wanted that were grabbed up before I could make a real offer.

I would suggest trying to search these sites, and checking daily. With these older trucks you have to be picky about condition and milage, and you have to look every day for a while. Don't rush. Wait for the right one. I knew I wanted a 2013 - 2015 access cab, and that I didn't want to pay more for TRD Off-road or Sport, for instance. Your needs will be different of course.

Even Facebook Marketplace can be good because dealers will list their stock multiple places where you might not even the think to look. I stayed away from private sellers for my own reasons but YMMV.
