Modified my arm jig a little to better locate it after cutting the bushings out. (Added the two small posts) Gonna modify a friends arms tomorrow.

    Started my own project today

    20250224_124039.jpg

Had to improvise in getting these out; completely seized and stripped phillips head bolts

Unfortunately, UPS is delayed so the parts that were supposed to arrive today won't show up until tomorrow

@Kwikvette you ride or project being done for someone else? Asking because it is a motorcycle passenger backrest but not sure for what brand. Im thinking Harley or Yamaha.

    Yep, project for myself.

Sissy bar from a 2013 soft tail, good eye!

I'm using it because I wanted something comfortable, but durable more than anything else and being real leather helps a lot. Just using the backrest portion though, the frame is getting tossed.

I'm actually making my own "Vyper" style chair. And the parts that were supposed to arrive are my 2' long acme screw, and 2 nuts.

Acme lead screws (1" diameter) are way stronger, and more precisely cut than all thread so I went with that.

Just need to buy some round tube for the center, and cut out the remainder parts.

That and figure out a good bottom cushion solution.

    Thanks for your service.

Nothing wrong with repurposing. A lot of times those projects are bettet than mass production items. From what i've seen from things you have shared, it'll turn out great.

Not sure if you miss riding. With the way people drive any more, you may not enjoy it today. There are times that I question being on 2 wheels. I normal try to stay off the highway & get out to the country roads in hopes of avoiding the idiots.

    Thank you :fistbump:

I do miss riding for sure, considering I only did it for a few years (2-3) and loved it but I did hate going on long rides. Mainly because of all the idiots on the road really.

Most of my riding was done either on the 5 around the LA area, plus going from Socal to Norcal and back, or twisty back roads in and out of Pendleton. Driving on the 5 sucked because people don't give a damn if they see you, or they're riding your ass even if you're going a good 10-20mph over.

Even my wife suggests I get a bike again, especially since I'm retired. I may consider it just to have something around town.

As for the project, I'll need to decide if I want to grind these nuts down a little bit, or a lot a bit. I had planned to use 1.5" round tube (don't have any on hand) but here's 1.75" round I've got in stock.

Acme lead screw and nuts arrived today.

Found a barely used Primeweld 225x with 14 months of warranty on fb marketplace for $650. Excited to pick it up tomorrow and then start teaching myself how to tig!

Before, i also realized that Primeweld is based out of NJ, and they sell open box welders with full warranty. But id have to take a day off of work, drive 3-4 hours each way, and fight NJ traffic to go pick one up for $600+tax.

@TacoTuesday603 did you get yours yet?

remember if you ride, you gotta go to the mountains or offroad where there are less people. I also ride, but my main goal is to get away from the crazy drivers. Create your own fun (or trouble) out there

Nope still rockin my cheap HF unit. With a new ck17 it works great. This whole setup is probably around $500(not including the 3350). Will get a 225X one day but funds need to go elsewhere.

Having access to TIG MIG and stick is so helpful.
