I have a 2023 trd offroad 5' bed with 20k miles. Nothingn in the bed of the truck. I just recently bought it. When I drive down jeep trails that are heavily rusted, full of water and mud it feels like my shocks bottom out. I'm not hauling ass through it but I'm going fast enough that I don't get stuck

Stock suspension? No lift or blocks?

I'll have to look after I spray it off. They are muddy right now. The shocks just seem a little soft but I'm new to the tacos

The springs are what's soft on the rear of Tacomas. Relatively speaking. The OR shocks are a bit softer than the sport, to give more off road compliance.

You can put a zip tie really tight around the shock shaft, against the shock body, truck sitting level.

Go for your drive on the bumpy whatever where you think it bottoms.

Then look where the zip tie was moved to by the shock action.

Since you are at stock ride height….I bet you are hitting the bump stops. This is the reason for the bump stops…..so your shocks don’t become the travel limiter.

Tacos have notoriously soft rear ends. I installed air bags.

I installed these, they are adjustable. Very happy with them for the past 7 years.

I definitely felt it more when I added a 1" block in the rear, but it's not jarring or anything. But bottom line is, yes you will bottom out on a trail, and the faster you ride, the harder you will bottom out on your bump stops. That's their job.

Yeh, i think you are correct. I'm getting a topo topper so I'm going to upgrade the leaf springs. I'm hopping it tightens things up some

As already said you are probably hitting the bump stops. Could also be a bit of the shocks topping out too. Archive Garage has a great u-bolt flip kit with softer bump stops that really smooths things out.

Thanks. I'm going to upgrade the shocks to 6112/5160s. I'm also going to install a beefier leaf pack. I'm going to have an overland topper on the bed

The 5160s are nice but are stockish length so depending on what leaf springs you go with might not be the best choice for maximising suspension travel.
