Trying to run wires through for one last upgrade and I got the boot and stepper bit, however there is a second firewall behind this hole? Do i go through both of those?? Or did I drill the wrong spot? the stepper bit won't go bigger then 7/8 so I can't get the 1 1/4 i need for the boot..

    2015 auto, 4L V6..

Not necessarily, but drilling there might have created a bit more work for you. That "puffed out" area detaches from the inner skin, as you discovered. I believe that is a pass-through plug in the body, which you can now see through the hole you drilled, though I’m not entirely sure. I'll post pictures tomorrow to show where I drilled—it’s on the other side of the master cylinder, where the firewall is a single-panel sheet metal section. Not much room, and I’m not running a boot like you’re planning, but I think you could squeeze it in if you can't get your original hole to work.

No harm, no foul, it happens. You can get a plug for that hole at your local Ace Hardware. Are you able to remove that plug back behind the hole? If so I'd imagine you would need an old wire coat hanger or something similar but you might be able to get it in the cab...

    minor tweaks
Having a large enough bit or hole saw is probably a good idea also.

    Am I missing something?

After snapping a pic for you this morning, I realized my suggested spot might not actually work for you, as I don't think you'll have enough room for the boot-style passthrough. As you can see, I only needed to run the sensor wire for my oil pressure gauge, so not much space was required.

That being said, I do have a much larger hole underneath where the A/C drain hose exits the firewall on the right side. This is my personal preferred spot, as it's super easy to access when you peel back the passenger-side carpet a bit.

You should be able to poke through, right next to the hood release, with something like a wire coat hanger.

Tape the wire to the hanger and pull it through.

not really, just had issues making a round hole!! lol The biggest issue was trying to make flush mount lights flush on a rounded surface..

I searched my entire house, no metal coat hangers.. guess a trip to goodwill is in order..
