Hey TACO’S , the truck overheated and now the idle is 1800 rpm’s and will not kick down to a normal idle. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks

The first thing I would check is your thermostat. I just finished up changing my timing belt, water pump, and t stat all because of symptoms similar to yours in a way. My truck would idle high and the coolant temp never reached operating temperature at all. this results in the truck idling high as it thinks its not warmed up yet. My t stat was stuck open, but if your overheating before you even get the chance to drive the damn thing, it could be ur thermostat is stuck closed not letting coolant flow in the system. if its the 3.4 v6 always install jiggle valve *facing the ground* on the t stat. give us some more information on the truck (miles, engine, last time parts related to the issue were changed) good luck fellow TACO

I just re read what you said. do u mean it overheated once and then its been idling high since or does it still overheat every time?

Overheated, which caused the thermostat to stick open, and now the engine isn't reaching operating temp because the thermostat is open. New thermostat and you should be good to go. Had that happen myself.

Need to address whatever caused the overheating as well though.
