Today after a neighbors car needed a battery jump start I started to get my truck and cables. He said hold on I got this. Pulled out a portable battery jump starter and started up his car. I decided right then and there I need one of those.
So I’m asking if someone can recommend a decent one. I don’t need the top of the line just something dependable that’ll do the job. Suggestions?

Any of the Nocos will get the job done. They're great, have several

Mines been going strong for 3 years now. Love not having to position cars for battery access. So much safer on the roads too. Every couple of months I re charge it, then back into the truck it goes.

Mine arrived the next day. It is awesome. Can’t believe how compact, light weight and easy to use it is. I decided to get 2 more, one for my other vehicle and one for my boat. I simply wasn’t aware of these things before I saw my neighbors.

@MGMDesertTaco, I think, let his sit unused for a year and he said it was almost dead. I recharge mine end-of-month (28th, 29th -ish) and it almost always takes 10 minutes to just trickle-top-off the battery.

I bought one for Christmas for the new bride of my nephew ... to say "I want you to be safe, if only because my numpty nephew wants you around". I will see them in a couple weeks so maybe they will want a demonstration.

I’ve had marginal results with those things. Not jumping, but lifespan. Maybe three years on average over the last fifteen or so years and five or six different jump packs. Several brands, some well known (AntiGravity) and some no-names.

The last one to crap out, a Duracell-branded pack from Costco, lasted less than three years and wouldn’t take a charge. (So it turns out Duracell jump packs are just as crappy as Duracell alkaline batteries).

I’ve gotten serious with the two I have now about trying to run the batteries from about 80% full down to 20% three or four times a year to keep them optimally “exercised” and maximize their life. We’ll see…

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
I have 2 GooLoo jump packs. Both have not let me down yet. One is 2 1/2, and the other is 1 1/2 yrs old. Both have jumped completely dead vehicles, one a 4.0L Xterra, the other a 5.7L Tundra. For the money, these are great Chinesium jump packs IMO

I gave like 8 of these away one Christmas. They work great. I have an ancient one that still works. Looks like one of them cell phone battery charger packs. Might have been there first version. Small amps compared to the one pictured, but it started my Taco a few times and atvs and dirtbikes. And countless times charging phones and such. I also have two gooloo power stations. Used them for a year to power my camper when my Goal Zeros kept dieing. I definitely recommend the brand.

I've had a Gooloo for 4 years and have used it professionally.

Doesn't mean they are all good, but its a solid choice for a booster.

Just to show I know to recharge every month by EXPERIENCE and not innate-wisdom ...

My first jumppack I bought "several" years ago I failed to recharge for at least one year. I charged it once and thought I was safe, then used it help two young ladies who clearly spend more on clothes than car batteries. It never took a recharge after that boost. Lesson learned. :anonymous::smack:

Wait until you run across one of those capacitor starters - charges off your almost dead battery. A modern use of the same technology that makes low voltage coils fire your plugs at 10k volts. Hums away, jumping up the voltage until it has enough capacitor charge to fire the starter solenoid. After I realized how it works - I couldn't believe its method has been around for a century.

Never knew this gadget existed until a fellow pulled one out of his glove box - and fired our shop's delivery truck. Look up a Schumacher DSR 108 - there are more powerful versions.

Yeah the NOCOs are great. One in the truck, one in the wife's car. She used to carry jumper cables in her old Jetta POS.

Have had the about 6 years. I use annual registration to check the charge on them, usually they're completely charged using that interval. Being able to charge a cell phone (or any USB device) and charge the NOCO while driving are great features, especially for bugout.

Bought one of these at the lowest price and not regret. Jumped several vehicles, and you just keep in the truck on trickle
