Anyone else have their hood pop open on it's own?

So I was doing a vehicle extraction for a friend a couple weeks ago, and while maneuvering around/doing repeated pulls to get the vehicle out (working in limited space because of an embankment), my truck began beeping at me, displaying "Hood Ajar"... So I get out and look, and sure enough, it's popped open a half-inch.

I didn't think much of it at the time, but now I see another post here mentioning this happened to them too.
The hood release lever is well-recessed under the dash, so 'bumping into it' just doesn't seem very probable...

    Anyone else have this happen?

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
My speculation - the hood wasn't fully latched and, due to what you were doing, there was enough flex in the structural elements of your truck to cause it to unlatch.
    Probably a one-time occurrence.

I always let it drop from about 8", yes (seen too many hoods get dented from trying to push them closed).

Someone was probably murdered in that are sometime in the last 200-300 years and their ghost is haunting the area, it's the only explanation.

I had mine pop up (the 2nd latch caught it) on the highway after messing with the hood adjusters last year. I got it set right and lubed the mechanism and it hasn't happened again.

Could also be a slightly misaligned latch that works fine during normal driving.
As long as it's not a case of the hood flying up and the wind folding it over the windshield. That is SCARY. Been there (not with a Taco though).

A ghost did cross my mind lol... I guess now the question is: was it the same ghost that got @dryheat 's truck too? (person who's post I linked above)

Yeah that happened to a buddy of mine with a Cherokee XJ. Fortunately he was able to see through the opening at the bottom of the hood enough to pull over.
Maneuvering the truck around (but yeah maybe me too lol)

Alright, appreciate the humor (TW never disappoints). Sounds like it's not something common.
I s'pose (after now having looked at it again) the possibility is there I could've caught the lever with the toe of my shoe while exiting, that's about all else I can think of. Thanks guys!

Maybe....but I'm telling you, I was driving my truck pretty hard for hours before this happened. I mean.... I was really beating the shit out of my truck. I stopped to check something, got back in, put in drive, *BOOMP* hood unlatched.

While me and my wife were dating in 1982, we were driving down I-77 down below Canton Ohio and the hood just popped open by itself from all the wind getting under it at 60MPH. Speed limits were 55 back then. She had a 78 AMC Concord. The hood folded right over the windshield while we were passing another car, and she was driving. She didn't panic but asked me what I do now as she tried to see through the lower part of the windshield. She never let off the gas and we had to get off the highway ASAP. For the time being she just kept driving. I still laugh about how she managed to do that, and we didn't get into a wreak. AMCs were great cars and we had several.

Never had it happen. The only time I ever saw it happen was when a 1st gen Tundra hit a deer. The deer crossed the road directly in front of me and was hit by the Tundra going in the opposite direction. I stopped to help at the same time as a cop. No one hurt so I didn't stay long.

If you were pulling someone out who was stuck I'd guess you put enough strain on the frame to cause some flex which released the 1st catch. The 2nd one stopped the hood.

OR... it was never fully latched in the 1st place and you just noticed it.
