Depends on your surroundings. I have been to meetings where there's few if any old/longtimers and meetings in the same town that it's the majority.

End of the day you're right, learning never stops. Keep your seat no matter where it is.

I myself tend to not think too much about time. It's a nice milestone but it is just another day in terms of having to do the same things every day.

All that matters is how much better you feel sober. And how much better you are for the people in your life.

I quit booze, cigs, and now went vegan

    Still enjoy coffee

Exactly. I still should give up tobacco, though as I told my mother when i was a few months sober and she pushed that one "I've yet to get arrested for smoking a cigarette and driving".

One year today. I've been following this thread for a while, but waited till today to post. Once I made the decision that alcohol no longer had a seat at my table it's been easy. Getting to the point of making and solidifying that decision was hard. Fortunately I never had any life wrecking events because of alcohol, I'd just had enough (more than enough) and it was time for it to go. Everything is better without it. I feel like a survivor.

    Congrats on 1 year!

Sounds familiar. Nothing horrible happened here (no DUI, no loss of job, no injury or family endangerment etc), I just knew it was doing more harm than I was gaining from it. A year is still a long way off but love hearing similar stories.

That’s when you gotta get a little creative like “I’ve never been sober today before”. Grateful every day to be livin’ a second life. :)

I just got back from a 5 day golf trip to Oregon, that I take every year with a group of 40 guys. Alcohol consumption is certainly a part of the culture and, in the past, I participated enthusiastically. This was the first year I'd be drinking something else.

I wouldn't say I was worried, more interested to experience what's always an awesome trip without alcohol, and it went great. I'm not the only one who doesn't drink, but amongst the guys in our part of the group, it's a new one for me.

Maybe not everyday, but frequently, I take a moment to appreciate what I've gained, and that I'm able to see old things through a new lens. It's really cool.

I avoided those sort of things the 1st couple years of sobriety.
When I finally went to a buddy's anniversary party, the 1st thing I noticed is how annoying drunk people are.
Then I thought. Jeez, was I this way??
Short answer, Yes and probably worse.

Everyone was cool though. I thought I was going to catch some shit but nobody was like, "Hey Brian, want a beer". which I was expecting.

I quit reading at vegan :D

I learned yesterday that the word vegetarian is actually an old Native American term for ‘bad hunter’.
