Long time reader, first time post. Sorry if this isn’t in the correct forum, wasn’t sure where to put it based on topic of 2nd vs 3rd gen.

I’m the second owner of a 99 extra cab TRD manual, had it since 2007. But (unfortunately) it’s time to get a newer, DC truck. I’ve found two that are each almost exactly what I want, looking for some input.

    2015 Sport, 105k. $25,5k vs
    2016 Limited, 125k. $24k

I’m on the west coast, so these prices are not far out of line from what I’ve seen.
Both are DCSB, 4wd, AT, black exterior.
Both have lived in an area where rust in not an huge issue, but of course the frames still need to be checked. Ideally, I’d like a MT, have had a hard time finding one, so I’m willing to get AT. I’d like to stick to gen 2, but also like the idea of having the s mode control of the gen 3 when needed. I drive on country roads a fair amount, and forest roads on a semi-regular basis. No crazy off-roading. I’m keeping my 99 if I want to do that.

Trying to think this out, but quickly. The 2016 has been on the market for a little while, from a private seller, the 2015 was recently listed at a dealership. Thanks in advance for any input.

And. I’ve found nearly the same question posted elsewhere. I apologize for not looking first.

I’ve bolted some stuff to it *lists cool stuff here*
First year of gen vs last.. I’m sure there are votes for both as both years have probably been great trucks for many people but if there’s common problems for a 3rd gen that one may be included, the 15 being the opposite end of the that.. :notsure:

All sports have the hood scoop, but from my understanding, it’s cosmetic.

Edit: I’m slow on the uptake and didn’t catch the probable joke

Go for the 2015 if it has the V6, it is bigger than the 2016?

2015. I’ve owned both, my 2019 3rd GEN has been flawless, but I wouldn’t grab a 2016 in this scenario.

    Welcome to the forum.
Guess it's a case of the checkmark list. You stated in your first post that you'd like to stick to the 2nd gen, so would you be happy with a third gen when you really want a 2nd gen? They're basically the same truck, just a little different. The Limited gives you a few more luxuries but the Sport is a nice package. 13-15's are the best of the gen 2's and around here are as rare as hens teeth. The frames should be your guide.
    Cheers.

The dealer truck is over priced to make someone feel good about the number they get for trading in their steaming pile.

If you like it, tell them you want the cash and carry price and no dealer fees. Should be good for a few Gs.

    Thanks for the input, everyone.
I decided to pass on the 2016.
I was slammed at work this week, couldn’t get to see the 2015, and was going first thing in the morning. And of course it sold today.
    The search continues.
