Hi all, I have a 2022 Tacoma.SR5. Purchased Opt7 running board strip lights with turn signal, running lights and courtesy lights. I can't for the life of me find a positive wire to tap into so the courtesy lights will turn on when the door is open and shut off when the door closes in conjunction with the dome/map lights. The other functions work fine. I understand that the door switch is a negative switch. It seems that the harnesses in the a pillar and in the roof are always hot.any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I have a feeling that I'm going to have to live without the use of the courtesy lights

I'm not much into lighting up vehicles like Xmas trees, but this sounds cool.

The only issue I have with Christmas trees is that you can’t fit enough lights on them!

@Guitar4x4 do you want it in conjunction with the dome/map lights, or just the door open closed? If just the door, I believe you can grab that trigger from the cargo switch. It will be a ground trigger, so just tie that to pin 85 on a relay. If you need more help on that process, let me know. If you are trying to trigger with the dome lights, it becomes trickier. The dome light is also ground switched, but the ground is PWM, so the dome light fades as opposed to just on/off. Problem is, if you tie that PWM to a relay, your relay will just turn on/off really faster, basically freaking out and chattering. There used to be a guy on here that made a module to get around this, DSIM was the name if I recall? But even if that’s right, I don’t know that he is still around unfortunately. You could still DIY something using a capacitor and a diode or two. But for simplicity, I would go to cargo switch route and use a relay to convert a ground signal to a positive signal for your lights. If you really want the courtesy light to fade, use one of these: https://timers.shop/Universal-Dome-Light-Dimmer-configurable-via-phone_p_46.html
That can trigger from a ground and provide a dimming positve output. It’s what I used in my truck for all my courtesy lights.

Perfect example where 2 parties can disagree and still be pals 'eh...?
If my wife mingles with the stars before I do the first thing that goes is the Xmas tree and all the lights and ornaments.
I hate all of it. Next goes the books and the plants. Then her closet. Then the drawer full of various 'teas'.

Conversely, if I mingle first, which is most likely, .... the first thing to go will be the cable-TV connection, then my old
ragged dirty t-shirts.... lucky for her those are the only 2 things I got left LOL...

Tap into the dome light wire, as they do with the footwell lights.

I have the Toyota approach lighting kit from Toyota and it gives you 3 LED lighting lights on each side of the pinch welds. When I walk up on the truck with the fob on me the light up the ground. Check out the wiring guide online I think i saw one a few years back and will see if I kept the instructions that will help. Also, the kit gives you LED lights for under the dash that dim out to a low night light that light up the footwells.

Do you have a part number for that kit?

what you are describing is basically what the meso customs puddle pods do.
pretty sure this was a kit that was only offered by a dealership in the south somewhere, and its pretty much impossible to find.

I will be home in a few days and will look at the receipts as I think I ordered it from Sparks Toyota. It was pretty much plug and play but a well thought out kit. Took about four hours to install. Will post later when I find the paperwork.

Before I did the puddle pods, I was on the search for the sparks toyota kit. I guess it was a dealer specific kit from a dealer in the south somewhere and it was impossible to find. The meso puddle pods and footwell lights basically do the same thing. The cool thing about the puddle pods is you have a switch so you can have them off, on auto which will turn on when you unlock and or open the door, or have them on to use as rock lights.
