I got my truck back yesterday from getting the U joint replaced & now I’ve noticed that it’s pretty sluggish in acceleration. I didn’t notice yesterday because I live 5 minutes from the shop & take back streets. Today though, when going to work & taking main roads it was very noticeable. I’m going to take it back up to the shop when I get off work but I’m hoping someone might have some insight on what the issue could be.

it’s a base model 4 cylinder, manual transmission

    thanks

I highly doubt it’s the u joints. If one were bound up so tight to affect acceleration, it would probably be squeaky.

Searching around the forum I found this older thread that kinda seems like the closest thing to my issue. If the drivelines were not put back together correctly would that cause the truck to struggle?

If the driveshaft was put back together out of phase. The common symptom is a bad vibration. I can’t imagine u-joint replacement being the cause of the truck being sluggish probably a coincidence.

If the driveshaft is not assembled correctly you'd just get vibration.

In some videos, you see them hitting the yoke with a hammer after installing the new U-joint to have it unbound. Maybe that was missed. :notsure:

Was the carrier bearing replaced or re-used?

Put the back of your taco on jack stands with the wheels off the ground. Put it in neutral and get under your truck and check. Should be fairly easy to turn, will be easy to look at your u-joints too as they turn to see any problems.

    I too doubt it's the u-joints.

Just as an update, it appears to be purely coincidental that it happened after getting the truck back but it was the MAF sensor. Thanks for anyone trying to help.

How did you find out it was the MAF sensor? Did it have to be replaced?

I'm not sure how long you had it with the sluggishness but I've been dealing with this for the past 2 months after I tried out 4LO for the first time (and gassed it somewhat hard, accidentally) . The sluggish acceleration varies from drive to drive, sometimes it's really bad, sometimes not so bad. After about a month of experiencing this, I had almost a full week of the truck returning to normal but then it came back. Point being, was yours intermittent? Wondering if this could be my MAF sensor
