Hey y'all. Just got my first taco and using it to learn how to "work on" vehicles. I'm gunna ask a lot of very dumb questions very often so I appreciate the patience.

My '05 taco has 270k miles, and when I bought it, it had the check engine (amber), battery, oil, and maint req lights on it. I already did an oil change (and did not empty the trans fluid by accident) but my maint req and oil lights are still on. I did the maintenance reset using the trip toggle, but the light's still there.

Oil level looks good on dipstick

Could that (oil maint req lights) be because of:
    A) oil pump issue
    B) oil pressure issue
    c) something else?

**Edit: I got a an ODBII scanner and didn't get any codes when I checked.

The Maint Reqd light is just a service (oil change) reminder, it's nothing more than a mileage counter (flashes at 4500 mi and on steady after 5000 mi after a reset).

It's in your owners manual, if you don't have an owners manual they can be downloaded here: https://www.toyota.com/owners/warranty-owners-manuals/

On 05-10 models you set the trip meter to odometer, turn the key off, press and hold the trip/reset button, turn the key on while continuing to hold the button, you should see a series of dashes count down, when the odometer reads 000000 release the trip/reset button.

I will note that a few people have experienced an issue where the main reqd light will not reset, nobody knows what causes it but the only known fix is to replace the instrument cluster.

I'll give it another try with the maintenance light tomorrow then. I'm pretty sure I ran through those exact steps, but maybe I missed something last time.

You missed something in the steps,or you are confusing the check engine light for the maintenance one maybe ?

So these are the lights that come on when I turn key to "on" position. All go away after start.

If they go away that’s fine, it’s just a self check so you can see that the light itself functions

So after you start the truck all those lights go out?

You should be in the clear. Pretty normal for vehicles to light up like that with the key on but engine off. If nothing comes on with the engine running, and it runs and drives normally with no oddball sounds or vibrations you should be fine.
