Has anyone traded their 3rd gen for a 4th hybrid?

If so, why and what are your thoughts for someone else thinking about it? Do it, don't do it...?

I'm seeing there are some concerns about whistling with some body modifications, less than great reviews about the sound system, and no storage behind & under the rear seats. Is there anything else that some would call a deal breaker?

The specs show headroom as the same between the two trucks, is that accurate? Being on the taller than average specimen, headroom is a concern.

Also, is a 6 foot bed available in Limited with the hybrid powerplant? Maybe I'm an idiot, but I can't seem to find one like that configuration near me.

The 4G is what the 3G should have been. The 3G is the mistaken gen. If I could I would have a fleet of 4G hybrids across the country and fly a Leer between them.

Justifying your $65k plastic turbo truck again I see by bashing on the prior gen for no reason.

as opposed to the 3rd gen slappies bashing on the new gen for no reason just like you right now? Why are you even in this subforum? Certainly not to help OP decide if they want a new truck. Thread wasnt even 20 minutes old and the trolls are here.

Weird, so a 4th gen member gives zero feedback besides crapping on the prior gen and then some of us respond and we are the trolls? Thats some backwards logic. And its a community of enthusiasts not some gen exclusive club friend.

I can't comment on the 3rd Gen to 4th differences too much, but did test drive the 3rd Gen before deciding to buy the 4th Gen. The seating position is more similar in the 4G to what I'm used to from other full size trucks, and I'm 6' 2" with no headroom issues. Even the cheap manual seat in my SR5 trim has a manual height adjustment and I can still crank my seat upwards a bit without coming close to the headliner. I did not prefer the more car-like, lower seating position in the 3G personally.

As for your other question, from what I understand when Toyota made the Hybrid powertrain available back in late April '24, the only 6' bed with the hybrid powertrain is the TrailHunter. When Toyota comes to their senses and offers a hybrid model below the TH trim with the long bed, I might have a tough decision to make about trading in my truck for the hybrid version.

To be clear I came from a gen 2 Tundra. But have had plenty of time in a gen 3. The improvements on then gen4 is what sold me on the Tacoma, power train, seat comfort and updated rear end (suspension and brakes) and looks.
The whistling is a simple fix, either leave the air damn on or get the cheap plastic plugs for the lower a-arms.
The JBL isn’t bad when properly adjusted. Not great but certainly not horrible!
My brother is 6’3” he was surprised how well he fit with plenty of room to spare, compared to the gen3.
No under seat storage was a deal breaker for me. The non hybrid power is plenty. Also the hybrids weren’t available when I bought mine so I honestly can’t say if it’s worth it?
The ONLY 6ft box hybrid available is the TrailHunter.

As soon as the one I want arrives from “In Transit” I will be making the switch. I have a 21 OR and I just want a limited hybrid.

I don’t tow anything and all I haul is an occasional lawnmower/weedeater. I mostly want the full time 4wd and it’s only available on that trim. I also wanted to have the comfort mode.

I did last week, I traded in my 2022 TRD Sport 4x4 with 22k miles. They gave me 38K which I thought was pretty fair considering the MSRP on my truck was 44K.

While I no real complaints about my 3rd gen, it was my 2nd one and I was ready for something new. I was actually pretty set on getting a Ranger Raptor, but I wasn't in love with the way they looked, and a moonroof was a must have for me.

In going to the 4th gen - especially with the premium pack, you get so many more nice 'quality of life' options; LCD dash, electric rearview mirror, power tailgate, phone key, cooled seats, The interior feels more roomy and is generally a nice place to be. The Hybrid is nice - I've gotten 24ish mpg on the highway. The power is immediate and you really feel the torque.

I don't think it was a must upgrade by any means, and most of the stuff I mentioned most people may not even care about, but to me they made it worthwhile. The whole package is really nice and refined.

Your 3rd Gen looked way better than the 4th Gen.

I’ve had 2 3rd gens and now a non hybrid 4th gen. I could never go back to a 3rd gen. More power, no gear hunting, better fuel mileage, better seating. Although I do think the 3rd gen is better looking, the 4th is growing on me.

Windows 95 was highly anticipated and kinda cool for the time. 3G like Millennium is more apropos. Disappointing and unnecessary, much like its users. Just a stop gap until a real thing came along.

Let’s be real man he’s not wrong, the
the 4th gen addressed almost everything wrong with the 3rd gen. The 3rd gen didn’t improve on much over the 2nd gen while retaining a lot of its inherent issues. I love my truck but the 4th gen is objectively better in so many ways.

You also responded by insulting the 4th gen, so kind of hypocritical of you.

I actually like how they both look. I have had 2 x new 3rd gens, so to me I'm used to the way they look and as mentioned, ready for something new.

I've actually had a 2nd gen before buying my first 3rd gen new back in 2016. The interior and tech on the 3rd gen when first released was far superior than the 2nd gen IMO. Both trucks drove great though.

Similar to another poster above, I traded a '22 in just last Thursday for a 4th gen. Also had 22k miles on the clock.

Creature comforts, technology, and the biggest cause was moving back to an automatic. I love driving a manual but I go into the city 5 days a week with my job now for the last year, many more around me did the same in previous weeks and more to come in the next few weeks. It was quality of life all the way around.

If I could have both, I would. One for weekend "old school" feel and the 4th gen for something that actually feels like a modern vehicle.

Recency bias is here, but, I do not have regrets about making this decision so far. I have not experienced anything "bad" or "weird" and I'm getting used to what a hybrid power train feels and acts like, the more I do the more I'm enjoying it. If it becomes a bad vehicle down the road for any reason then I'll reassess, but for now I'm quite happy.
