I think I've sourced five of them. Now I just need something close to a 2.778mm

that picture just shows the diameter is 28mm. depending on the machine they can be different sizes. Most you find will be really small for motorcycles and the like. you measure with a micrometer in the center of the shim. The shim get beat on both sides. On one side it's the end of the valve right in the center. The other side gets swiped by the cam lobe. Over time they get a little thinner. Not to mention the valve is the real thing changing as it continuously beats the valve seat into the head. Eventually the valve is sitting higher and closer to shim.
They are also all not the exact size the manufacturer makes them for. You never know just how close a "2.75mm" shim is to that number until you get a 'mic' on it.

That's the frustrating part. When you don't have a collection at your disposal, you're kinda screwed unless you can find someone willing to measure what they sell you. It's entirely possible that 2.75mm you ordered at the dealer goes either smaller or bigger by a small amount and in a direction that doesn't help you get that clearance you're aiming for. Fortunately, I found a guy on ebay. I can't find anyone for that last one however. We'll see what turns up. Hopefully soon, because it's starting to get nice and I need to button up this motor and get it packed away before I start working on the frame and making a mess with that.

.1105 as in 0.1105" would be the 2.80mm shim #7. If it is truely 2.7mm that would be great. If it's the marked 0.1105" then it would put me right back at 0.011" clearance.

Thanks for everyone looking. I appreciate it.
I'm trying to hit the middle to loose so 0.32mm to 0.37mm. Something mic'ed to between 2.729 and 2.778 will work.

There's always some bit of fudgy-ness because I measure clearance with thousandths of an inch, and then convert to mm which gives a lot more decimal places so you round the thousandths trying to take into consideration of which way you need to go. When I look at clearance in inches it doesn't seem as touchy as with mm. I don't know if that's just me or what?

I might have to buy a couple just to have some options with this one.

When folks are measuring/sourcing new/used shims keep in mind engines from the factory were built with shims in .02 mm increments, service replacements from Toyota are in .05 mm increments.

    Ok

    I’m getting it
The micrometer OD diameter was making me 2nd guess myself
    Understood.

The cam ‘buckets’ I’m familiar with
Have laser etched measurement on them
    (Less guessing)
I have seen some race friends (with a mill)
Actually take the inside nipple down a 1000th to make work

    this wafer thing much different
