    Hey all, new here.
My mom just bought a 2003 tacoma, and I figured I'd get some baseline info on these trucks.

The truck in question is white with grey interior, 217k miles, automatic, 2wd, and has the little 2.4l (booo, i know). Truck came with a very nice bed cap, and the bed has been coated. Overall it's in great condition, and I'd like to keep it that way. I've already got some small repairs and upgrades to do here and there (both rear window hinges are broken), but would love some recommendations to keep this thing clean and reliable. The truck is mainly going to be used for daily commuting and the occasional camping trip, so I don't need any beefy offroad upgrades, but if there's anything that you recommend, please share. Thanks in advance!

(This is the only picture I've got)

Nuthin’ wrong with a 2WD 3RZ! Horses for courses.

That’s a nice looking truck. Congrats on getting into the Gen 1 world.

I do have a question. What the hell is this thing? It's not quite cupholders because of the solid metal bars in the cup sized holes, and I am genuinely stumped on what it's purpose is.

I think it was a platform to strap a kiddie seat to. Or cup holders, or for all practical purposes, it's good for nothing. You do have a sweet truck BTW. Do the maintenance items and just drive it for another 200-300k miles. Original trucks are cool.

It is cupholders. The legs actually pull down from under the platform.

So basically useless to me. Oh well. That's one of the best things about this truck, all the maintenance items have already been done. the PO did every repair his toyota dealer told him to, so every fluid has been recently replaced, the ball joints have been replaced twice, and just about everything else that wears out.

Another question. I'd like to get a phone mount, and I don't really want it to be in the way of the windshield. I found this one (https://getoffroam.com/products/toyota-tacoma-1996-2004-phone-mount), and I really like the style of it, but $80 seems like a lot. Is there a cheaper version somewhere, or should I just suck it up and buy this one. I'd prefer one in the ~$40 range if at all possible.
