FIPG? Sealing front clamshell

Does anyone advise against using 1281E FIPG on the front diff clamshell halves?

I was just about to reseal my front clamshell, a.d.d. tube, etc with 1281E FIPG- but then read it was designed for the seal between the trans and t-case, so I stopped myself.
I read on Yota 1 that 1281E can be used on the transmission cover, clutch housing, differential cover and carrier, extension housing, front bearing, ring retainer and rear axle shaft connection. I’m pretty sure Timmy uses it in one of his vids.

I’m probably totally overthinking it but I also saw some diff rebuild forms where someone was using a single bead of black Toyota FIPG and said that was what the factory manual called for. (???)

I need to get this done today, and have some ultra red rtv and some black rtv…would I be better off using the 1281E?

1281E FIPG is rated for -76°F to 482°F. Ultra red is rated for -65°F to 650°F.
black rtv is oil resistant..

The color of the 1281E FIPG is a pale pink, which is different than the orange red on the clamshell, but I heard Toyota changed the formula anyway.

what would you use to seal your front clamshell?

 

I rather use Permatex Gear Oil RTV Gasket Maker

 

I don't know what the difference between 1281E and 1281 is, but I'm pretty sure the factory service manual calls for 1281 for sealing the front diff.

 

welp- I hope there isn’t too much of a difference! From what I could find it seemed okay to use so I went ahead (can’t find any info on 1281 vs 1281E and I think they both say “transaxle case” on them). I’ll update you guys if I have any leakage.

 

FSM says to use 08826-00090, which is now 00-298-0128
And that is what your tube says on it.

 

Toyota driveline FPIG is orange.

That said I doubt it matters. I used to use VW engine sealant on transmission cases.

 

They changed the formula apparently! Now it can be the orange were used to or pink (what I received). Or like you say, other options prob are fine and I’m just overthinking lol

I realized after putting the clamshell halves back together in the front diff that locktite might be a good idea on the 10 bolts. Backing the bolts out now means losing FIPG. Will the gasketmaker also work as threadlocker or should I back em out? Do you guys swear by blue locktite on thesebolts or will I be okay without? Thanks

 

They aren't going anywhere.
There's 10 of them sharing the load equally.
I think you'll be just fine. I'd leave it alone and move on.
