Yeah, I remember those days (2016) in the forums here. People boldly claimed their last 2nd gen 2015 Tacoma was the most superior of them all, and the new trucks are just too weak in the motor dept and loaded with unnecessary tech.

Toyota gave us a hybrid option which has 465 ft/lbs. That is exactly why I wanted hybrid, for day-to-day mall crawling, the torque at low RPM is insanely fun to drive and no lack of power anywhere.

This is the same in all car forums. It was the same with bmw x5. I came to the conclusion it’s people who envy the current generation owners for potential buyers because they are not. Most people who bash the current gen end up buying it later down the line.

3G with the 4.0V6 would have been incredible. Pure awesomeness.

Not Tacoma culture bud, just look at the diehard 2nd gen and 1st gen guys. Maybe some but it’s not an envy thing. Many of us had orders on the new gen and cash buyers with the means but just are not fans and that’s okay. Plenty of 2nd gen owners sat out the 3rd gen and now going 4th gen, etc. Its a Tacoma not some performance vehicle.

Smooth power throughout. That was the design goal as stated by Toyota and smashingly achieved as stated by me.

Agree - I fell in love with diesels with the 2nd generation Cummins Ram 2500's. Loaded down with my Lance slide in camper, and a small trailer with bikes, quad, etc, I'm going up a local hill that had all my previous gas powered 3/4 ton trucks struggling and downshifting and revving to the moon to maintain 55-60 mph, and the Cummins instead locks the torque converter and pulls the hill gaining speed. It was love at first drive. Been using diesels ever since (and had them all: Cummins, Powerstroke and Duramax), but now that I'm older and downsized the truck, I really wanted a similar driving experience and while the non-hybrid Taco is pretty good - it pulls hills holding speed at 1700 RPMs - I really wish they had made a lower trim level available with the hybrid powertrain in a long bed configuration. Again, if an SR5 (or maybe even an OR) version comes available with the hybrid and long bed, I will looking to trade in my truck, as much as I like it as it is.

Yes, but it is slower than the non hybrid, and only gets 1 mpg better. Shouldn’t it be a little quicker? What good is 465 ft lb if it’s slower and has a payload around 1200? I guess I don’t understand.

I'm sure that's why everyone bought their 4G Hybrid Tacoma "Smooth power throughout". Now that's funny!

Slower by like .1 seconds, so nothing substantial. The point is low end torque and mitigating turbo lag to some degree. The hybrid will feel less strained while towing and loaded down. Off-road the truck can effectively crawl at lower rpm, kinda like the Colorado duramax. Running larger tires is also easier. Lots of 4g owners have put on 35’s and still found the power to be adequate. Thats a first for these trucks.

Hating on other gens is 100% a Tacoma thing, you are the prime example. When third gens came out, taco owners here did nothing but hate, literally nicknaming it the “turd gen”. 1st gen owners have a superiority complex, and second gen owners are the new third gen owners in terms of hating. I saw this forum on the 4th gen before it was even revealed. It’s the same thing every time. “Too expensive, too big, too complex, not gonna last”. Same complaints have been beaten over everyone’s head since the second gen came out.

It's slower based on 1 article where they tested a TRD pro VS a regular 'off road' They really need to test the same trim with Hybrid vs Hybrid. Those big TRD pro tires will most likely cause the acceleration to be slower.

The tires are the same size for hybrid off roads and pros, just more agressive for pros I believe. I own a hybrid and it pulls strong anytime with factory 33s and I am getting 22 mpg.

I’d like to see a true race (TFL is slacking!) after you put bigger tires on the non hybrid. Then race again with 1k in bed. Either way plenty of power getting on freeway or climbing a hill.

As long as it has Toyota reliability, no brainer going hybrid and worth more than pleather seats and auto tailgate.

When I took my '22 in for its final Toyotacare service at 25k miles, I got an automated text from them asking me if I wanted to sell my truck because it was "in high demand". So in my head fantasies, if I were ever to trade my 3rd gen for a 4th gen, it would have to be a Terra TRD Pro and nothing less and it'd have to be a 100% even trade with no money out of my pocket at all. And even then I'd be hesitant because I don't like buying the first one or two model years of a new gen vehicle. Realistically, I don't plan on getting rid of my 3rd gen but if it's ever in the cards, I'd get a second vehicle, whether its a Type R, GR Corolla, 2nd gen TRD Pro, 2nd gen Tundra TRD Pro, Raptor, or IS500. But these are also all head fantasies.

I actually like the front end, hate the silverado wing and rear and interior, love the front.
