Door Ding Prevention

I park on end spot close to curb as doing so only puts one side of your truck at risk. Also I park on the right side end since most people pull into parking places as opposed to backing in and considering the majority of vehicles don't have passengers this further reduces your risk of your door being hit.

 

LMAO. I do this with my 4th gen. The funniest part is when its next to bunch of bushes. I feel bad for my passengers! haha

 

The only good door ding prevention I have found is to park as far away as possible from everyone.

 

Your sliders do not extend past the wheels. It is still possible for the offending door to hit the sliders and also hit your truck's body. Doors are not flat, some curve more than others. Your door)(offending door.
I went with 6 inch wide running boards for that reason. The stick about 1.5" past the mudflaps. Now I see 8" wide running boards, I wish I would have gone with that.

But trucks miss my boards and could smack the doors. I park further away also.

 

There seems to be some kind of magnetic attraction to vehicles parked by themselves. I swear, many times when I go to great lengths and distances to park in empty corners of giant lots (Costco, Walmart, grocery store), I'll return to find that another vehicle has parked next to mine...with empty spaces all around us. I've decided it's because some people must be lonely or feel scared.

Another tactic is to park next to a super-expensive luxury or sports car and let it protect a flank. Or a Tesla, since they are covered with cameras. But parking near a Tesla might present its own hazards these days.

 

I've had my 2nd gen for over 10 years now and I still park in BF Egypt whenever possible.

I figure the extra steps as exercise.

 

My family gets all grouchy at me cause I always park far away.

 

I have these guys stand next to my truck wherever i park.

 

Lol get bigger sliders and/or a bigger lift. I laugh to myself thinking about how much it's gonna suck for some of these a-holes who park way to close to the line. Mine sit halfway up most sedan doors and stick out about 2/3s as far as my mirrors

 

There is only one ding - really a paint chip - on my truck.
I had an early morn appt in downtown and parked in an essentially empty parking lot and I was
up against a parking lot island in case it started filling up. When I came out a couple hours later, the lot was still empty but there was a vehicle parked so close to mine I could not pass between them without turning sideways...and there was the paint chip matching the edge of their driver door. What statement this idiot snowflake (many in that area) was making eludes me but that vehicle now has a souvenir of the event.

As far as prevention: someone needs to come up with a consumer version of explosive reactive armour.

Bumper strips that explode and emit bb's when bumped? not quite preventative but oh so satisfying.

 

Things that help:

• Park far away, where others hate to park.
• If possible, park next to a curb bulb that lets you snug up to it and create space on the driver's side.
• Try not to park next to vehicle's with doors that terminate at the apex of the wheel well. (I hate these doors)
• Try not to park next to the above mentioned vehicle that ALSO has a kid's seat in the back. Kids are like, "fuk dem dows". And... eww kids. hahaha.
• If parking is tight, try to find an open space adjacent. Don't be tempted to take up two spots. (If you do, you earned whatever the world gives you). Instead, just poop at the entrance to the adjacent empty stall. You can also carry around some fake poop or vomit. This will give other drivers a moment to contemplate finding another opens spot well away from your doors. Yuuuusssss!

I always park where there are many uncrowded open parking spaces. It is also good exercise to walk.

I realize some TW members may have a medical condition and can’t walk very far. If that’s the case ask your doctor for a handicap parking permit. Handicap spaces have lots of space and you should not be getting door dings.

 

If I have to park next to a car I try for one with small doors rather than one with one long door.

 

I try most of these. While trying to avoid door dings, I got backed into instead from a truck parked across from me.

Sometimes you just can't win. The universe decides that it wants to punish your vehicle. There's no arguing with the giant spaghetti monster in the sky.

 

Now I always park nose in and added a trailer hitch even though I rarely tow anything.

 

I park the same but always try to park on the right end so that my truck is on the passenger side of the guy who's going to park next to me (assuming most people pull in facing forward). My hope is that they guy will be alone and no one will be exiting his vehicle on the passenger side.

 

This is exactly what I do too and I usually park a little further in the lot to avoid dings. I don’t mind walking an extra minute or two either.
