I’ve got the OME EL 111r and some Bilstein 5100 ready to be installed. It’s double cab long bed with full size spare and rear cab right now. Next week I’ll have 4 bikes on a steel bike rack, coolers, water, and camping gear for 4 people and a week of food and gear. Going to be off road for a portion of it down in southern Utah. I was hoping to get these installed before then so I’m not riding the bump stops.

Someone with credentials told me the Bilstein 5100s won’t be enough length for the OME leaf springs which will give me 2.5” of lift at first. Should I return the 5100s for the extended length or send it?

    Thanks,
    Max

PS, I got the truck for this kind of adventure so this will probably be the normal way I’m using it, albeit just a few times a year.

Send it. You will only be limited in down travel, which you gotta be trying to crawl over some gnarly shit to need full down travel anyway. If you get longer shocks, you also need to extend the brake lines or they will become limit straps. And that adds a bit more work to the project as now you need to bleed brake lines and top up fluid. Also, longer shocks mean you gotta make sure they aren't too long on compression. Which usually means taller bump stops. It becomes a whole thing lol.

I also used the have the same leafs on my truck. They don't flex for shit so you aren't really missing out with the shorter shocks. And you won't get 2.5" on a DCLB. I got maybe 1.75" with mine, empty box. They sagged to 1" after about 3 years.

Thank you, sir. That’s exactly what I wanted to hear.
