I just did mine about two weeks ago. They are all (three) the same.

The model U-joint you want is the Spicer 513301X, if you want to stick with OEM (that's the greasable model, 51330X if you want non-greasable). You'll need 3 of them to do the drive shaft and like others have said, you might as well do the carrier bearing while you've got the drive shaft off. I bought a pretty cheap u-joint press kit to do the job a few weeks ago but an auto parts store should also rent the tool kit if you don't want to purchase it. It's really not a difficult repair, just make sure you index everything with paint markers so you can reinstall everything in the proper orientation.

While I don't recommend leaving it as it is and peoples concerns are valid but somehow when the U-joint grenaded on my jeep it continued to function just fine other than the clunk when switching directions. The center cross was completely gone and I was being propelled by the Us hitting each other but somehow it didn't even add a noticeable vibration. Well not enough of one to be noticable over the other jeep vibrations :)

In 2016 my wife and I were enroute to the Grand Canyon from Georgia. Got in the truck on a Sunday morning for the last leg of the trip and I immediately noticed a slight vibration when accelerating. I was 99% sure it was a U-Joint but it was Sunday and nothing was open. By the time we got to the Grand Canyon I could hear a slight squeaking with windows down.

On Monday I left my wife to catch the shuttle and see the sights while I drove 80 miles back to Flagstaff and the closest Toyota dealer. $300 and 3 hours later I had a new U-Joint. The truck had 170,000 miles on it at the time. That was 9 years and 75,000 miles ago, the other U-Joints are still the ones from the factory.

That was the last long road trip for the Tacoma. I bought a newer truck after that trip and kept the Tacoma as a 3rd vehicle.
