I can only comment on the power train, because I ended up replacing my wrecked 3rd Gen with a Land Cruiser instead of another Tacoma. The turbo 4cyl hybrid lays out way more power (50hp and 200fp?) than my old V6 and gets 23mpg doing it. I only got this because it meets my current needs better than a truck.

I'm one of those dudes that has actually liked pretty much every iteration of the Toyota pickup.

The first vehicle i've ever driven was in 1992 when I got my license and my parents gave me their hand me down work truck. It was an '86 standard cab pickup. I promptly lowered it and installed 2 x 12" subs. It was awesome! This was when mini-trucks were all the rage. I actually wish they would come back :) The Maverick lobo is close.. I also remember back then the first gen 2-door 4-runner came out with the removable top and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

In HS, I got a job at the local Toyota dealer, and that was when the first US Tacomas came out. I remember the quality that oozed out of that truck. I wish I could have afforded one back then.

Years later, I had several 2nd gens including an x-runner, 3rd gens, etc..

I've liked them all and enjoyed. I never saw as one is better than another. If you gave me one of those first 4-runners with the removable top, i'd enjoy it just as much as my hybrid 4th gen.

Don’t think I said that, said design elements. Just look at the tailgate handle, the tailgate lip, vertical taillights, rear cab pillar shape the stupid wing and brake light. Very similar to a current gen sierra. Never mentioned the canyon in my post…

No lip, vertical tail lights, or sloped cab pillar shape on the the 3rd gens and that handle is so sleek and sexy.

I actually do prefer the 3rd gen tail gate and tail light design.

One thing I didn't expect was how much longer/deeper the 4th gen tail gate is! It's definitely something I will have to get used to.

/damn. I just reminded myself when I traded in my 3rd gen, I left the TRD Pro tail lights on - I should have swapped back to stock!

The Ranger Raptors are great trucks. The power is incredible (especially with the Ford Tune) and the suspension is excellent. I will say it is probably the best off the showroom floor midsize truck package there is, but I can't leave any vehicle stock.....and the lack of aftermarket support is what detracted me from the platform.

There was more aftermarket support, accessories, upgrades and "goodies" for the 4G Tacoma before it even hit the streets than what is available for the 6G Ranger a year + after it has been released.

You guys do realize that all car manufacturers purchase other new cars from their competitors and break down all the components and features to back engineer them to find out benefits to them right? If it makes sense they incorporate the design or features with their own twists. There is a reason why most trucks have a small sliding window in the back. Why most automakers are using LED headlights vs halogens. I mean if I wanted to save money and try to maximize my car company I would do the same. Have others spend the R&D and then copy it and sell it for cheaper. I wonder if any companies do that now?

I don’t understand you and others bashing the 4th gen. If you hate them so much why even get involved in the forums and discuss about it? I mean if I disliked a certain car model I’d just express my opinion and move on instead of investing your time and energy into it. It only reinforces my thoughts of all haters. Envy & jealousy. Just go take more photos of your 3rd gen and keep telling yourself how wonderfully better it is than the 4th gen.

How am I bashing? Cause I said I didn’t like the way it looked and my impressions driving one? Did you skip over the part where I said I am still considering one, how about I’ve had every gen, not once have I said the 3rd gen is better. But okay yes just paint your own picture there.

As of tomorrow my 3rd generation will be gone and the one I have been waiting for will be mine. I found the Windchill Pearl in a limited hybrid. I am not going into the 3rd vs 4th gen argument because I am the only one paying for it so who cares. I will say I did have more problems out of the 3rd gen than I had with any other Tacoma I have ever had and I have had them since before they were Tacomas.

I hope the 4th gen is reliable and treats me as well as the others but if not then it will be on it's way out and replaced with something else.

I traded my 2019 TRD Sport for a 2025 Hybrid TRD Sport. I have no regrets at all.

The 4GT powertrain is significantly better than the 3GT, even accounting for a tune on the 3rd gen. It drives better, tows better, accelerates better, etc. The extra tech on the interior is really nice too. I've got heated seats, a heated steering wheel (an option you don't know you like until you have it....LOL), power seats on both side, and 14" infotainment system. All of these are big upgrades from my 3GT, and I don't even have the fully loaded model.

How you guys liking the softex seats?

The cloth feels a little cheap compared to the 3g. I was looking at the premium for the extras it gets like the surround view and that cool rearview mirror but I was wondering about the seats.

They seemed cheaper than the softex in my 3rd gens but it’s not like it was great to begin with. It’s still a midsize truck. Guessing it will hold up fine though. I agree the cloth options are worse than the crazy early 3rd gen print.
