Do you or anybody else know if this can be used with a splitter to power both a radar detector and a dash cam?

Those with a Garmin Mini 2 or 3, are you using it without a subscription? If so, I’m assuming it just records to the SD card and you do not get any alerts. Can you still use Parking mode but no alerts? Is there anyway to view the videos on the Garmin app?

I just installed a Garmin Mini3 with the Dongar adapter to the rearview mirror plug. I am still learning my way around the settings, but I did not sign up for the "Vault" subscription for online storage. My understanding is it records to the SD card continuously and overwrites as needed. You can press the save button to save a video (protects it from being overwritten I think) to the SD card in a more permanent way. Using the Garmin Drive app you can review and download the videos. According to the manual, it has sensors for detecting an "incident" and will automatically save 15 sec before and 15sec after to SD card.

One thing I am trying to figure out is it is very slow to access the videos and download using the Drive app on my android phone. Not sure if that is normal, or something with the SD card I chose? Any other min2/3 users have this issue? The SD card is this which meets the Garmin requirements: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09X7C7LL1?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Also wanted to add, not sure about parking mode. Using the power adapter connected to the rearview mirror, it is only powered when the Tacoma is on.

@MGMDesertTaco Any updates on the Wolfbox install and usage? I put a Ovrlnd camper with zero windows on my 1st gen and I'm looking to install a replacement mirror/camera before I finish the interior build out this spring and would love some feedback on this setup.

Dongar Pro will work with older Tacoma's, but the 24/7 auto record feature won't unless your truck is within the years listed on the compatibility list of the dongar pro.

I'm still using the cigarette adapter to power it. I might hardware it if I ever get around to it. I might yank it out and put the oem mirror back in. Finding a mounting location for the rear camera was the hardest part. This post below seems to have solved that issue.

My NextBase GW522 does not operate if the memory card *writes* slower than 50 MB/s. I am currently using a 90 MB/S SD card. If you look at the directories on that SD card you will probably find more than written video/pictures but a directory to keep status of the unit ... thus the need to write at high speeds.

Anyone have thoughts on the Genuine Toyota Dashcam? Besides the expense of course. Seems like it's a clean plug in.

My 23 has the OEM unit installed by the distributor. 1080 resolution and no rear camera. Works ok. You will need to buy a larger mem card. Toyota app access/functionality to the camera and data files is basic.

Nope, they're just slow as shit and the Garmin app sucks. It's good to know it's there and in case of an accident I can pull the SD card and put it in my laptop but I'd like a dashcam that allows me to quickly and reliably transfer straight to my phone whenever I want.

Question for you, did that mount come with it or is that a different mount? They are having a 25% St Paddy's day sale and I might pick one up. How's it been holding up these last few months?

I've been using a Samsung Pro Endurance in my dash cam since 2020. Though the Sandisk extreme should be a good card too. Just look at the secs on the card be sure its rated for extreme temperatures and for security camera use. I got a cheap PNY card at Walmart when I got my dash cam and in a few months of the recordings being overwritten constantly it trashed the card and the camera would not record to it.

That is a different mount. It's the all metal one that you can get off the 'Zon. Only negative is waiting for it to arrive, ha.

I did some research and found it on ezdashcam.com too. I just thought about this but if you have a mirror with homelink you will lose that functionality by replacing the mirror or even attaching this to the mirror. I'm guessing there is no garage door functionality in the Wolfbox which kind of sucks because they are 25% off right now on their website with code LUCK25 if anyone is interested.

That was a feature I was ok with losing. I have a garage door remote anyway.
