I got this 97 Montero SR in September and am just finishing all the maintenance on it, timing belt, CV boots, plugs, wires, fluid changes, brakes and fixing leaks.
It’s got the Winter Package so got a factory air locker.
I’m really impressed on how beefy and well made these things are. 175k miles and runs like a top. Guy I bought it from put some reman heads on it and OME shocks, torsion bars and springs.
    Anybody else got one?

Those are nice vehicles, a buddy of mine was really into the for a while. His was very similar to my 3rd gen T4R Limited. It was comfy enough for a long trip and had 'enough' power to get out it's own way.

That’s a sweet ride! What are your plans for it? I looked at those a while back but bought a GX instead, I couldn’t find a well maintained one.

I just remember back in the 90s a kid in my 3rd grade class did a whole Jr. Toastmaster's presentation on how awesome his dad's Mitsubishi Montero was and from that day on, I kinda wanted one

I really liked them when they came out! One thing to keep in mind, they have pretty bad rollover crash rates.

Edit: though looking back and researching now, it appears the redesign for the 2001 Montero's had the worst ratings for rollover.

I’m just going to keep it as is for now, it’s a beast off road. It has 33x12.5x15 tires on it which bog it down, probably going to go with 265/75/16.

I love driving it, I haven’t driven the Tacoma in a month lol. They did an excellent job designing this as far as a 4x4 goes, it has a factory body lift and the hood is slopped so you pretty much see all road when you’re driving, the 4x4 system and the vehicle itself is stout as hell.

You can really feel the top heaviness when cornering
