Old hard drives (spinning platter type, not SSD) have great magnets in them. Every single vehicle I've owned since the early 90's has had a HDD magnet on the oil drain plug, my toolbox is covered in them to hold things, I have a few with clips epoxied to them and wrapped in canvas (to prevent damage to paint) to hold extension cords out of the way when I need work lights and stuff, I have one set that is just for trailer lights and wiring that I swap back and forth between a utility trailer and two boat trailers, etc... They're better than most commercial offerings unless you get the big stuff from shops like CMS, but you pay for those, where old HDD magnets are free.

Free if you have some old drives laying around...

It's 2025. If you don't have old HDDs laying around, you're not in a developed enough part of the world to have to worry about magnetically attaching your front license to your vehicle because you don't like the aesthetics of it when permanently mounted.

I hear ya. Just trashed those drives years ago. I’ve been using those on-off magnets from mag switch with good success. But they are not free in fact they are quite proud of them.
