So I just inherited a 2001 taco from my late father, and I’ve been working at restoring it to as close to factory as I can. Needless to say, she’s in pretty rough shape, but it’s a work in progress. Long story short, the center console is trashed, where can I find a replacement that’s as good if not better that the OEM? All I can find is battered preowned ones

    Welcome to TW.

Keep looking on Fleabay and be patient. Auto wreckers that use Fleabay post things as they pull them/get them in. They are always overpriced but considering they are not made any more it is what it is..

You could also try buying it new but it's going to be fun tracking down the exact one you have, there's lots of variants. Generally any 1st gen should fit, match up Auto/manual/4WD.

I’ve taken a look at what’s available, and most are in the same condition if not slightly better than mine, the little flaps it used in the cupholders are usually toasted, dad was a big guy and leaned on top of the console lid and it’s split over the years, and the back little hinge compartment facing the rear cab seats he used as an ash tray, so that’s torched as well. A lot of the parts via Toyota are discontinued, but the main one I need is the base of the console (the cupholder area) as the plastic has been stained by cigarettes getting put out on it. I’m genuinely surprised that nobody has started manufacturing parts in some capacity for a truck that has such a huge following

I’m going to need a lid eventually which doesn’t look too bad tracking down that part.

These almost always break on old trucks, intentionally (mah cup's too big :-D ) or by age, it's neoprene rubber (I think) and it dries out and cracks like most rubbers. I replaced mine early on. not a big investment. Also replaced the rubber bump stops.

Is there somewhere that sells just those flaps or like an easy replacement for them?

Easy to replace for like $15. One of the first things I did on my 1st gen back in 2014.

    yes. Part number for my 2003 was (4x) 66995-AD021 & (1x) 66995-AD011

this site is super useful to find part numbers - adjust the year/model to fit yours, it’s set to my old 1st gen.

Pretty sure I found mine on Fleabay (hence, probably paid more than I should have.) Here's a set in a quick search.

Replacement is not horrible. Here's a TW post on it. I don't recall mine having screws, I thought it was quick-release nuts on studs but it was "a while ago."

Oh wow I didn’t even know what was replaceable! Thanks for that! Now I can stop focusing on whether the center console has those flaps or not on fleabay

Not sure where to get an actual console - but considering if it’s trashed you’ll probably also need a new console top/door… you can get one from the Toyota network online and have shipped to you or pickup at dealer.

here’s a part # that matched my truck

I’m not entirely sure how I matched it when I got it - but it was identical. Here’s my interior.

Respectfully, that is CLEAN AS HELL! (Mind you the only comparison I have is my own) but good god damn, talk about inspiration to want to get to fixing mine up! And I think we have the same trim color so that’s actually really helpful! Thanks! The sheer volume of things I’ve learned within this post alone is saving me tons, you all are insanely helpful!

Also, did you replace your carpeting, if so, which one did you go with and from where ?

    came this way, see below!

thanks man! Honestly I can’t take credit for it. The previous owner took really good care of the cab - I had it detailed the first day I brought it home, and have it regularly cleaned now.

"Back in the day" we'd get remnants from a carpet place and recarpeted our rides by hand. Don't do that with a Taco. There are so many molded twists and turns, holes where things come through, the backing has sound deadening material, it's a really bad idea to go primitive.

That being said, there are Toyota dealers on Fleabay that have them for around $150, or you can go direct to a Toyota dealer. They may or may not be hard to find, last I checked they were available on Fleabay.

I found a couple from ACC, which seems pretty solid, and they’re around $220-ish

Hey so everywhere I’ve looked it flags this part as not fitting on the 2001, but it looks identical to the one that’s in it now. Idk where to find one that actually fits
