As always I love coming here and getting a consensus and advice things. Looking to change my battery soon. Any good make and brands you recommend? And with these trucks is there anything special I need to know about or is just a quick swap?

Most batteries are made by maybe 3 manufactures. Find one based on convince and price and swap it in yourself.

I changed mine with an Interstate from Costco after the factory one died after 4.5 years. That was a year and a half ago with no problems.

Just make sure it’s an NOT AGM and just a standard lead/acid type, the 3rd gen ECU which controls the alternator doesn’t put out enough to charge it properly in stock trim. This can be adjusted if you have or plan to get an OTT or likely other tune. You could also run a trickle charger like a battery tender or a NOCO on it every once in a while to solve this as well.

Nothing special, just pull the old one and replace it. The factory radio, if you still have it, holds all its settings.

There's a thread on here about it and I'm going to try it next time.
I live where summers get to be 120° F and can venture into the 20° winters just a few miles north of me. That's hell on a battery - especially under the hood near the radiator. Throw in some light off-roading and the battery gets shook around a little.

I hear - can not confirm - that the Caterpillar Batteries they put in the heavy duty equipment are built to different standards.

    upload_2025-3-15_14-25-21.png

I'm going to get one and see if it holds up to the heat and abuse.

Costco Interstate 24F, $120. Or Walmart Neverstart, whatever is convenient for you.

Now that you mention it - I don't think I ever programmed the factory radio. I just listen to spotify or downloaded podcasts.

Any specific reason you need to change the battery? I have 2019 with original battery and 73k miles, I just ran a test through Midtronics 650, nothing wrong with it.

Regardless of change or no-change (both has been discussed) get a NOCO GB40 in case you need to boost the existing battery.

I recommend the 12 volt kind. Wally World sells a good one for a good price (EverStart Maxx). And if you ever need warranty support, there is a Walmart in just about every fucking town in America. It's a no brainer IMO.

Stock battery was put in my wife’s Camry which is still going strong and 4.5 years on my Optima Red Top which is tuned to add .5volts while charging. I see 14.2-14.3volts while running. I personally prefer when my battery acid isn’t venting all over the engine bay while jamming through Baja. Also installed one of these since my truck hasn’t seen 5k miles this year.

I bought a battery from Pep Boys back in 1973 and it's still going strong in my Tacoma.

any lead acid battery from a large retailer with lots of locations in case of an unusual warranty need.
    Cheap is ok.

Use a tender not a charger.

Changing early is a great idea instead of waiting and maybe needing a tow at a remote location or worse.

I think he left his NoCo (or similar) jump starter charging. They don't really trickle charge.

    Ya
For me I use a tender or charger. depending on the need.
    Charger/boost if dead.
    Tender for daily/on going maintenance.
Dont like the lazy multi use things
