    What do you peoples do to remove rust from cast iron? I have a lodge cast iron bbq that sat in the rain. It’s sad and rusty now.

    Quick answer
    Scrub well
    Soak in vinegar until rust is gone
    Rinse really well
    Rinse again
    Dry in oven

    season and repeat season

    On my PC, yeah that looks pretty rough. You could never grind it smooth and have enough meat left, IMHO.

    Not to say you couldn't sand the high asperities (tallest/sharpest peaks) and use it for cooking. I have sanded old pans before and after seasoning and use, the surface is like teflon, but not toxic!

    Looks rough but can’t tell if that’s just ol grease and such on the bottom. Lots of good videos on YouTube for restoring cast iron. Cast Iron is resilient so unless it’s warped or cracked you can probably get it back. Many people use lye bath, brake cleaner, electrolysis method, self clean oven. Haven’t brought many back to life myself so I’m not much help but pointing you in the right direction. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.
