It is fine really, we are a bit inconvenienced is all.
I more tell the story to pass the time & share a laugh about rural living.

There are always other folks out there with a lot more to worry about than fussin' with an old generator.

I'm sure the linemen have been going non-stop all day, will probably be at it well into tomorrow and it is still raining just to make it more uncomfortable for them.
    I couldn't do it.

Currently there are something like 55,000 accounts without power, way more than my little backwater.

Well fellers, the Chromebook & phone still have some battery but mine is fading so I'm going to try and get a bit of sleep.

Let's see what tomorrow brings. :fingerscrossed:

I just watched part of the new "Reacher" series on Amazon. Part of it, they shoot out a very large transformer, and knock out power to most of the county. Come to think of it, this season is based out on the east side of the country...

Just think of it as your civic duty.

A quick oil change, add some gas and just a few pulls of the rope and the little generator zoomed to life.
    :)

Fridge, phone, Chromebook, Makita battery, router and 1 bulb plugged in, it is only a 2000 watt unit.
When the fridge catches up I will change over to the freezer.

    Life is good.

Well, here is something new...

The generator was happily thrumming right along and then started surging, I could see it on the little plug in volt meter, the bulb output and hear it as well. After a bit I turned off the bulb, which happened to be an LED, and the surging immediately stopped. o_O

Tried turning the bulb back on and it was dead. :bananadead:

Put a new bulb in, a plain old 60 watt this time and all is normal. :notsure:

@RustyGreen good luck with the power outage. You have the right attitude about it.

They're keeping up with the times. I never want to go back to high school. It wasn't particularly easy for me for uh reasons.

I was the last class to have shop class. We did wood working and an intro to stick welding. They also required us to take a couple home ec classes in high school on top of two in middle school, boys and girls. I can stil wind up a sewing machine 20+ years later

The 3rd gens definitely had a nice balance of old school and tech in one package. The 4th gens are pretty similar, just gussied up. I didn't go for the all out top line, but it has enough stuff to keep me happy. The auto collision and parking assist are actually nice.

Picked up my friends S10 yesterday on the drive home and was taken aback how basic it is. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it just felt... odd to me.

You can also see the difference in sizes over the past 22 years. My truck looks super bloated

Friend does want a new truck, but doesn't like all the fancy stuff. Might convince them to look into a 4WD SR Tacoma.

I'm sure you know this, but the "dirty" power of the gen might have killed the sensitive little circuitry in the LED bulb. Your output of the generator might be getting more "dirty" and might need to put a meter on it. I'm sure you already know this, but figure I'd throw that out there.

Thinking about it the bulb might have been on the way out to start (25 year life my foot...) sometimes it would delay coming on a few seconds.

The gen started surging again - and ran out of gas.

A tank ran about 2 hours working right along so not bad.

I thought about buying a couple double conversion UPS's to go with a gen setup so I can power my well pump (UPS not for well pump) and some electronics if my power goes out. Although with modern inverter generators being cost affective I might not need it. Most modern PC power supplies don't really care and can handle "dirty" power anyways.

    Damn I'm a nerd

I have thought about getting a small UPS just to power the DSL box, the Chromebooks will run 12+ hours on a full charge. My new phone plan has unlimited data (yeah, right) so I can just hotspot the phone for the CB now.
