RTT on stock suspension

Hey y'all! New member here and still learning how to navigate and find topics in this forum. I'm sure this question or something similar has been asked so feel free to link another thread if needed.

I have a 3rd gen TRD OR that I'm planning to install a Cali Raised bed rack and OVS RTT. I'm on stock suspension and don't plan to lift anytime soon. Between the rack, tent and normal camping gear, recovery gear, etc. I'm wondering if I will need a leaf spring upgrade.

This truck travels all over the country and explores multiple different types of terrain so highway comfort is somewhat of a concern.

At what point and/or weight does a heavier leaf spring become a necessity.

Yep! And every FB add for these RTT's reads pretty much the same; "Near new RTT for sale. Only used once"

PS: to try and answer OP's question - the more weight you put on bed the more the truck will "react" to it. I don't think it's necessarily the RTT that is going to be the issue, it's everything else that goes with it to go camping in this manner. But my short uneducated answer is yes you will need to beef up that suspension will all the stuff you will be hauling around (including people). I'm sure others will chime in with specifics.

 

You can use Roadmaster active suspension for the extra weight.

 

I would be planning on a leafpack . These stock packs flatten out if you look at them wrong. As for what option for no lift not a clue.

Welcome to the forum. Ignore the RTT scoffers, they are just jealous because they have to sleep in the dirt. I also went with the Roadmaster setup.

 

IMO I would look into a leaf pack you could do Icon RXT option 1 would work with stock suspension leaving you with some rake

 

I have that exact setup…3rd Gen TRD OR DCLB with a Caliraisedled mid-height rack and OVS Bushveld II and I need new leafs. It bottoms out pretty easily on the back, especially when I have a couple of coolers and a couple of totes of camping gear back there. I am actually going to do a lift when I do the new springs, so I am not looking forward to that invoice.

 

A lot of people say good things about Sumo springs, but I have yet to try them myself.
