Greeting! First time posting here. I’ve looked over a few different posts about Tacomas, specifically 3rd gens, having sluggish acceleration and somewhat of a delayed throttle response. I’m having difficulty figuring out if that’s what I’m experiencing or if it’s something else. The truck is an automatic.

So whenever I’m going roughly 10-20mph and give it some gas, let off the gas and then go back on the gas the truck hesitates to do anything. I don’t hear the rpm’s go up and there’s no acceleration at all for what feels like 2-3 seconds. It only seems to do this when going that slow, when I’m at highway speed there’s just the typical delay of the time it takes of shifting into gear. I know it sounds weird to be so touchy with the gas but usually this is happening when yielding at a roundabout or someone cuts me off around town. It does this with ECT power on as well. I got the truck in November and I’m not really sure if it’s done this the whole time I’ve had it or not.

My hunch is it’s something to do with the gear programming but that doesn’t explain the delay in RPM.
I only first noticed it after changing my spark plugs but I don’t really see how that would cause this besides a misfire which is unlikely given the engine sounds smooth and and there’s no check engine light. The only bizarre thing that happened after changing the plugs was I started the truck and it died immediately but this only happened once and hasn’t happened since.

I’m fairly convinced it’s the same issues everyone reports about sluggish response and acceleration but I also keep wondering if it’s something else. I apologize for the wall of text I just wanted to give as much info as possible from the get go. Any info is much appreciated.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
The ECU can get confused my your erratic inputs and just wait a couple of seconds to let things settle.

I just realized I didn’t say there’s a few seconds between my inputs in the original post. Do you think that could still be the case? It makes total sense either way
