Aloha everybody, I bought my Tacoma at 64k miles about two years ago. I have been racking up miles and diving a lot. I do maintenance on like changing oil did spark plugs at 75k. Fast forward to 100k miles. I drove around and noticed a sound like a pop and something retracted itself i don’t know if I hit something on the ground but that wasn’t the case. Next day I noticed when I turn at high speeds the low pressure oil light blinks for like a millisecond then a knocking sound or something flying around in the cylinders. Changed the oil a week before that light came on. Took the truck home and heard the engine and it sounds like it was oil starved. Check the dip stick the next day and it was low and checked for leaks on the oil pan. Everything was torqued right as it should be. When I started it up i walked around the vehicle and smelt something like someone did a bbq or something. I look at the top and noticed smoke coming from my exhaust. It was white. THERE IS NO COOLANT LOSS. The check traction control light remained on

I thought it could be a pcv valve and I changed it nothing happened. I even changed the hoses as well both pcv and crankcase ventilation hose.

I took the truck to a mechanic he said “if it was piston rings or stem seals. It would sound like shit.” “I think your truck is fine. I would change the o2 sensor or fuel injectors.”

One week down the line my cylinder five was misfiring and I changed the fuel Injector and it solved the problem. Smoke still persist.

Another week goes by I drive on inclines to get to work. Truck goes into limp mode when I try to gas it past the noise. Truck went into limp mode with p030027 p030085 and trac off light and the check traction stability control remained on. I turned the car off and on was luckily able to drive away. check engine light and trac off light was off but check vehicle stability was still on. Smoke is still there

two weeks go by I changed the injectors to make sure it wasn’t the other one failing. Smoke is still there.

During the same week I check compression and everything was fine 15 up or 15 down everything was in the threshold.

Took it to Toyota and they are scratching their heads too and could not help me.

today I changed the intake manifold because the old one was making noise and rattling inside and changed the intake manifold runner gasket. Nothing has changed. Except I can somewhat go up hill better now. Still have smoke. i have to keep filling up oil and do changes. Also changed spark plugs noticed that it is tipped black a little on cylinder 1 3 5 and 2 4 6 are clean. Also the coil packs are good. I changed the o2 sensors as well

Bottom line I have the code p030027, p030085, p030000, trac off light and check traction stability control. Smoke on start up whiteish does kind smell plastic. It goes away in a couple minutes. Also burning oil. Can someone tell me what’s going on?

    Holy parts cannon...

Get it properly diagnosed by someone who actually knows what they're doing, otherwise you're just guessing and wasting [more] time and money.

BTW, TRAC and VSC lights come on anytime the CEL comes on, so they are unrelated to whatever issue is present.

I would pull valve covers and inspect the valve train and valve timing.
Get a camera and look inside of the cylinders

I took it to Toyota to get it diagnose and I told them. They tried to mimic the truck going up hill and trying to get it in limp mode. They said it was “fine”.

Not true about vsc everytime I hear the knocking noise it came on. I cleared the codes the night before to see what happened and took it for a test drive.
