Haven't tackled mine yet but watching a few YouTube videos of how annoying the driver side is, I'm assuming by removing the intake plenum you end up with lots more space to work? Sounds like a no brainer.

Ya I’ve done it this way, my point is there’s risk and why not take the long way with no risk. The angles are tight and it’s challenging for some. My hands are scratched to hell so I gave up on this way.

Basically that, I used to use silicone sprays but they got really messy, I honestly just use any non-petroleum spray to keep seals soft.

I let people decide, but I keep preaching this method, so I decided to share it. Obviously its not going to be 25 minutes at home, but the idea is there.

Im thinking of doing my plugs for first time this spring. I am almost at 100K km (62K miles)

This method looks interesting. I do have vienna sausage fingers and quite a large hand in general so doing it with the plenum off looks much easier for me.

Any tips on taking the plenum off @Bishop84? Please and thank you :)

Not really, you just keep unbolting junk until it comes off haha. Remove the throttle obviously and there's one secret connector thats underneath but its super obvious when you remove it.

I have pretty agile hands, but I'm getting older now so I'm more reluctant to make them work like this anymore.

Heck I don’t know @Vlady said to get one so I’m all in lol. I assume that’s the type of bolt that holds the plenum on so I’m going to get me one.

You don't necessary need it. Toyota uses studs. Depends on circumstances, sometimes you need to remove studs. I think plenum has a combination of bolts and studs with a nut.

On the tranverse 2gr you remove the studs to sneak it out, but on tacoma you don't need to remove the studs.

When I took my plugs out at around 60k per manual…I could have easily got them up to 100k … that will be the last time I ever change the plugs myself on this truck ..what a pia it is to change those I have better things to do lol

I'm sure it's been a topic of debate but iridium plugs in most other motors are good for longer service intervals.

I've got small hands and wrists but starting to develop arthritis so I'm all about not getting them tore up further. Thanks!

The plugs are wild expensive and these could have easily gone to 100k

On my sisters second gen we iridium in simply to extend its interval so she’s less reliant and worried on the short intervals
