Greetings fellow Tacomians. I live on a DARK road 20 miles from town. I have a hard time seeing a great distance ahead at night. I have upgraded my 2015 headlights, which are brighter, but still not bright enough or go far enough for me. I have a 2015 and am in the process of installing a roll bar ( light bar) for off road lights to add more light. I'd like to have them wired to only come on when I turn on my brights. What would the easiest way to wire them to the bright light circuit through a separate switch that i could have the option of having them on or off? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The easiest way would be to use the switched wire for the high beams (use a multimeter to determine whether the positive or negative is switched). Run that to your switch to control the relay. On my Tacoma I used a double pole double throw (DPDT) switch so that if the switch was thrown up it was always on, middle it was off, down it was controlled by the brights. I probably didn't do the best job explaining it but here's the link to my post about it.

If you have questions I can try to do a rough wiring diagram when I'm on a computer.

Thanks Lee. The switched wire for high beams can be located at the light socket?

Why not just run them to a separate switch? This way why bother with hooking to high beams?

I thought of that, but it would be easier to flip my brights off and have the off road lights turn off at the same time for incoming cars than have to hit an extra button to turn them off.

Grey 2015 and Y2kbaja like this.

Yes. Unplug the light and have someone switch high beams on and off while probing the connections with the multimeter. Be aware that some vehicles switch the negative, not positive. I'm not familiar with the 2nd gens. There are some people on here very knowledgeable on wiring diagrams that may be able to tell you what color wire is switched.

Edit: Also be aware that if the negative is switched and you tap the wrong wire to control the relay, your light bar will stay on when you turn the key off. Ask me how I know...
