Trying to figure out if I can start the vehicle with the actual key that’s inside the FOB.

Yes, shove the key down inside that slot and turn it to the right as hard as you can. You have to turn it very hard but it will work. But then again, what the hell do I know.

The key inside the Fob unlocks the doors. Did you buy your 2016 used? If so, be aware 2016s came with a separate key for the tailgate. My Fob key only works on my doors. Toyota in 2017 made it so the Fob key works on the tailgate too. That’s what I get for buying the first year of a new generation.

If your fob dies (presumably why you want to start the truck without it?) you push the start button with the dead fob, and the truck will turn over.
But we are just guessing at why you’re trying to start the vehicle without the fob.

Every car with the auto transmission has that little door by the shift level.

That is the “self destruct” switch don’t put your key in it. JK, actually it’s the manual unlock for the automatic transmission.

Nope, sure can't. Gotta use the fob on the push button starts.
