I'll have to check that out to see if I need to mount mine the same way.

Here's what the mentioned handhelds offer.
Dual Watch is monitoring 2 channels..

There's also all the private channels, direct call and group call.
I'm not ready to read that far ahead.
    Screenshot_20250320_142046_Adobe Acrobat.jpg
I did read a little. It's confusing until I read it several more times.
Something about setting privacy codes and matching another radios code, to send direct calls. Different call sounds for different codes.

Yeah, we should set up a group and use privacy codes, that way we won't be able to communicate cause most of us (including me) will set them up wrong ;)

That is definitely one big reason nobody really uses privacy codes (nor are they necessary most of the time). Just to add more confusion for everyone, in the GMRS world "privacy codes" do not actually have anything to do with privacy. It's more about filtering out interference of other people's communications in crowded areas. Zero actual privacy, very confusing terminology.

Luckily GMRS is about as easy as it gets if you don't get bogged down by the minutiae. Select the channel, press the button, talk to your friends. Simple. For 99% of people that's all you really need.

When in Utah we had to change channels one day.
Some kids at a campground were playing

The wiper discussion earlier got me thinking about my wiper blades. I bought a Silblade silicone set back in 2018. They are still working great, until I looked at them. This winter seems to have been rough on them, so... just ordered another set. Over six years. Thats a pretty good return.

How's that skid plate coming along?

I ran through a fluid check today. (Filled the washer fluid, to stay on topic).
The new/used transfer case took a little more gear oil.
    Other than that, all good.

I'm done working on anything major until after the trip. Anything that could hold up my truck, that is.
When I fix something at work, I look at my 2nd pressman and say,
"It's either going to get better, or it's going to get worse."

Fixed it today. No rattle. Lost 3/8 inch of clearance. Time for 37's

My air intake box was quite dusty.
Cleaned that and the MAF/intake. Checked breather valves.
    Check. Check. Check.

Managed to break the base for my phone mount, so I've got another one of those on the way.

It almost seems like it would be worth learning how to use the privacy codes. We've picked up others' conversations on several occasions. It's not as bad as CB was, but, it's been a little annoying at times.

I was about to order a different antenna. Then I figured I better make sure if the one I have is male or female connection..........

I don't think the antenna on the Midland GXT1000 is meant to come off.

Just order the mxt275 and install it in the truck. Keep the hand helds in the door to use when out of the truck spotting.

    Believe me...........
I glanced at the screws that hold the radio together. lol

I started twisting the antenna and it felt glued in...Like if I twisted harder it would break.
