I just had the drive belts replaced on my truck and today it was warm outside so I had the a/c on. I noticed a weird noise. I would push the a/c button and it started screaming when I turned it off it stopped. When I got home I took a video of it. What is the issue?

I know the video is hard to watch but this is the part that’s moving and then doesn’t move in the video.

That's a power steering pump. Is that a pic of your AC compressor? No belt if so.

If you paid for this service go back and tell them to do it right. If you didn't have a belt on your AC compressor before the belt service that would explain a lot.

The belt broke so I had them replace the belts. This was taken when the belt was broken and it was the a/c compressor belt. They replaced the belts and the guy said that the compressor may go out because he had to clean melted pieces of belt of the pulley.

I was driving it a couple of weeks ago and noticed the ac would not blow cold air out. I was stumped as I was driving cause I didn’t hear anything break. I was leaving a store and noticed the belt hanging as it had ripped. Took it to the shop and they replaced the belts. Picked it up and ac worked great no issues. It got cold again this week so no need for the ac except for today it was warm. I noticed I could hear a noise I couldn’t before on my way home from work. It wasn’t super loud but noticeable. I pushed the ac button off and the noise wasn’t there. I leave it on and can hear the noise. I go to turn on my street and it starts screaming. I push the ac off and it stops. Turn it back on and it starts screaming. When I went to check under the hood, pieces of belt were slathered on the metal side part where the K & N intake is. Had someone push the ac button and the noise starts and on the pulley it starts spinning on a part of it. Turn it off and it stops.

Unfortunately all signs point to a bad AC compressor. Sounds like it has seized or it is broken to the point of putting too much load on the belt. A new compressor and new air dryer would be the minimum, but if the compressor failed badly and put metal into the system that complicates things a bit.

Metal into the system? What does that mean? What could be the damage?

spin the ac clutch by hand without a belt on and see how it feels. If its rough and doesnt turn kinda smooth then its either the clutch or the compressor. I would take it to a shop that specializes in AC only. Theyll be able to tell you for sure what it is. If its the compressor youll have to evacuate the AC system and recharge it. For that definitely take it to a specialist unless you know what you are doing. Good luck

If the compressor breaks badly it can put metal chips/shavings into the system that will cause problems later. Odds are pretty good that isn't the case. But have someone that is familiar with automotive AC take a look at it, it won't take a pro more than a few minutes to pinpoint the issue.

This is definitely true, when a ac compressor fails internally which happens....
Metal debris contaminates all the internals of the entire system, especially if you just continue to ignore the situation.
contaminates all the orfices, evaporator, receiver drier, condenser, expansion valves, etc....
parts must be replaced if verified & system flushed....
