Hello, a few months back after installing my roof rack I noticed a small leak in the front passenger side. Just enough to barely make a small water-spot on the headliner. I took the rack off and applied more silicone. And the leak is gone. I never payed attention to the inside holes but today I decided to check and make sure everything was still good. And I noticed this brown spot around the corner as pictured. I’m assuming it’s rust but I may be wrong. I would have to drop the headliner to get a better look. Can anyone confirm and know if it’s going to cause any issues. Thanks!

It’s rust but it will be fine common occurrence.

It’s not gonna spread or cause issues though?

IMOP no, you will wear out the truck before that will cause issues just make sure no more moisture gets in there. If you are concerned you can always check it every six months or so.

Just curious what are you doing with the rack? Did you re seal, resinstall? I've tried 3 times, gobs of gasket maker, Extreme Sealants, couldn't get it not lead at passenger side.

The light bar cracked and because of the way the rack was powder coated I had to completely take it off. (3rd time) the headache wasn’t worth it so I just sold it. Then cleaned up the holes and filled them with silicone and have had no issues. I had gotten rid of the leak though just by filling the holes completely with silicone then quickly threading the screws in.

Too bad. Looks like I am heading down the same path.
