What are you reading right now?

I just started Ancient Law by Henry Sumner Maine. If any of you have read it, what are your appreciations and critiques of the jurisprudence expose?

 

Right now? I am reading your post.

 

I have an open mind on my reading. If I see it I’ll give it a whirl. Right now I’m reading Dean Koontz Darkfall. Picked this up from a Little Free Library when I was out on the road working……

 

Wish I made more time for reading again.

Last thing I completed (re-read) was The Sprawl Trilogy by Gibson.

 

Just finished "Homage to Catalonia" - by George Orwell.
A1930s account of when he casually goes off to support the fight in the Spanish civil war living life in the trenches, fighting in the streets of Barcelona, and eventually getting shot.
Just your regular 'average joe' adventures...

 

I watch pretty much every episode that he has on YT, I'm hoping that he covers some things that he didn't have time to share in the videos.

Kudos to him, he found his destiny and has fully embraced it.

 

The Ravens, by Chistopher Robbins. Unique flyers in an unique war.

 

Champion of the Apocalypse, part of the Duck and Cover series ( Post-apocalyptic Nomadic Warrior) by Benjamin Wallace. It's a comedic/satiric series that is just hilarious.

Just started the 2nd time through. Was given a paperback copy to read by a 'Nam vet. Afterwards he shared with me his injury story from a patrol. Lost four guys to a boobytrap, injured 4 others including himself. Six inches left and he wouldn't have come home.

Good book written by someone who was there.

 

"The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Takes place in Barcelona 1940s and beyond. Great characters, colorful descriptions, interesting story. Over 30 million copies sold and published in 45 different languages.

Neighbor bought me a boxed set to read while recuperating from intestinal surgery.
Can't put it down.

Just completed: "The Stairway To Life, An Origin-Of-Life Reality Check" by Change Laura Tan & Rob Stadler, 2020, 267 pages.

A critical examination of abiogenesis theories, and how they utterly fail to explain how life began.

One for fun and one for professional development.

 

Alternating between this and my vehicles factory repair manual

 

Since my last update; Finished "Flyboys'.
WWII account of pilots in the south pacific.

Then I re-read '1984' because, well, George Orwell... - and also felt appropriate for its current relevance.

Then went for.something a bit lighter;
Read the british classic: '3 men in a boat ( to say nothing of the dog)'. *

An 1889 account of 3 mates and their dog cruising the Thames by sail /row boat from London (basically) to Oxford & back - camping and spending some quality time in pubs along the way. It is very funny at times - full of tangent rants and distractions from the topic.

A book that has never been out of print since it was first published in 1889!

Cleverly written with great use of (Victorian times) language. I really enjoyed it.

It pisses me off that a proper neighborhood pub is so difficult to find. - a 'warm' friendly nook to hang out in, with good (real) Beer, interesting regulars who can either spin a yarn, or carry a clever conversation, serves a decent curry, handmade fries, etc., and has not 1 f'n tv turned on unless the world cup is on!

I did a portion of that trip on the river long ago, so it was a bit nostalgic for me...
