2014 Tacoma Baja Double Cab / TRD / TX - White with Baja Stickers Removed
    Hello everyone...I'm a newb here.

So, I have recently acquired a 2014 Baja / TX Edition Double Cab from my father who passed away. I am finding out that it is a rather rare model with a bunch of goodies on it. Best part, is it only has 10,800 miles on the ticker. Obviously, the truck was not driven much, and it still smells new. That being said, I have put about 400 miles on the truck without issue, but today I was coming over a small, windy grade and when the brakes went all wonky on me, like it was going into anti-lock mode and skidding a little. I pulled over for a sec, then took off again. Seemed to be back to normal, but brakes seemed a little touchy. First thing that comes to mind is corroded caliper pins from sitting around so much, but I was wondering if the gurus here might have something else in mind? Any input is greatly appreciated. TIA.

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

At that age you really should go through and change all the fluids, including brake & coolant. Also give the brakes both front & rear a full disassembly, cleaning, lube & inspection.

The electronically actuated brakes are touchy, thats just how it is, but you are correct, start with a brake service, front and rear, and new fluid.

Has it been sitting outside or stored inside?

Pull the drums and inspect the guts. It's easy to do. At 10 K there really shouldn't be much of a lip on the drums.

Stored outside in a driveway most of the time.

Thanks. Those decals it had were HORRIBLE. Apologies to anyone who may have the same rig, but jeez...

Kinda curious...does anyone else have this version? The Baja / TX? If so, what are your thoughts on the ride with the Bilstein reservoir suspension?

Good looking truck. Welcome to TW. It looks like you have the 2nd gen TRD Pro, Bilstein 6112/5160 suspension. I have the same on my 13 OR and it was a great upgrade over stock. And while I'm kind of on the side of staying stock with badging etc. Especially on less common models, I will agree that the BAJA graphics are too much. Maybe just the smaller TX graphic on the bedside for BAJA cred (too late now), but the rest is better gone.

    Welcome. Nice truck!
This may be a goofy thought on my part. Hopefully those Gurus you mentioned will chime in to set me straight...

I can't help but wonder if the "...over a small, windy grade..." played a part. Is it conceivable that the traction control kicked in for a microsecond or two and @Skill felt that? (maybe not a brake fault at all)

Have there been any repeats? Have any mechanical defects been discovered? Do all of the dash warning symbols function?

Nothing since and have not had a single light come on, as far as the dash is concerned. My son took it out for a spin and said that the brakes were touchy, but has not driven it much, so no real comparison. We are going to tear it down this weekend, buff and lube the pins. Not sure if the rears would be the culprit, but we will take a look.

I don’t have any thoughts. It comes with old 6112/5160.
If you put new 6112/5160 then it is new.

6112/5160 is an entry level shock.

That is how a company marks up a “package” with a sticker on it. Same as a TRD Pro 4runner.

You obviously have some thoughts, and, yea, I get marketing...believe it or not. This is actually my third Taco since '98 (not that I'm an expert,) and I get the difference between "new", "old", and "entry-level."

Maybe, as a "Well-Known Member" for the last six years, with over 7K posts, you hate people new to this site with newb questions, but I was simply asking what the ride input was on this particular suspension, not a lesson in part numbers, marketing, and age of product, though you have succeeded in showing your prowess.

I am a Land Cruiser person, first and foremost, and have been a "Well-Known Member" on a prominent LC site since 2005. I would never approach a new member on that site with this type of condescending reply.

Yes, I am new here...maybe a few stupid questions that need prior research, but I plan on hanging around for a while with my latest Taco acquisition to help build a better product for my son.

    Thanks!

I see you are asking about the ride input

I recommend riding in the vehicle whose ride input you are asking about

It will input to you the ride

Great retort. Really exemplifies your original statement..."I don't have any thoughts."

Hello and welcome! Congratulations on the beautiful truck and very sorry for the loss of your father.

I remember looking at those trucks new when they came out. I had a 2011 DCOR and I thought they were so cool!

Word of advice, don’t feed the trolls. This forum can be fantastic but it is still the internet after all. Now you see how a person can get to 7k or more posts.
