Photo dump from my recent Mattawa/VMUTS trip- so, so much fun. Felt good getting out with a bunch of buddies, truck did great, with one exception; the stock rear springs. MAN they suck. They blow through, and they bounce like nuts. The 5100s try their best to hold their own but those stock springs are unbelievably useless. It's weird, because the stock spring + 5100 combo on the front end is great- but the rear end is mushy and bouncy like anything in the rough stuff. I will be getting at least a AAL, more than likely a full leaf pack though.

Okay, so the truck sucked to drive with that cap. Got 11mpg and sucked on the highway. Went back to a Bakflip G2, and built my tools into the bed.

I think this strikes the sweet spot between tool storage and a totally usable bed well. Waterproof and secure, whilest also being completely removable for motorcycles etc.

    125K KM :bananadance:

Still love it like I did on day one. It won't be going anywhere soon. The modifications have slowed down a ton, partially because I love how the truck looks and drives, and partially because I just got a new place and I'm broke :bananadead:

Shoutout @Canadian Joe for the amazing pictures of the truck.

Quick update for yall- just hit 80k miles/130k km. Only thing I’ve had to replace is a taillight bulb. Just been driving the hell out of it outside of that

Installed a icon AAL (thank you @Saturnine for the great deal, and thank you @3JOH22A for driving a couple hours to install it with me). Ended up ripping out the airbags (destroyed them offroad) and put in @Saturnine s leaf pack, which is stock + the icon AAL, with no overload spring.

    Truck rides fantastic now.

I've also picked up a daily driver, a 04 crown vic from my late grandpa, for 750 dollars. It's better on gas than the truck (lol) and I can now go a little crazier with the truck.

I also picked up a front bumper used, it was a body Armour 4x4 bumper, but it's in the process of being chopped up into a full tube front bumper.

Next steps for the truck are to chop off the exhaust and dump after rear axle, front and rear bumpers, and then reroute the exhaust near the Tcase.

The only issue I have with the truck to date @ 139,500km is the front differential seals where the axels go in have developed slow leaks- which is most likely due to me getting airborne whilst fully loaded, and other activities I imagine toyota engineers would cringe at.

Being airborne isn't particularly hard on CV axle seals. It's more likely to be activities like this. The mud and silt basically form a grinding compound and wear the seals and sealing surfaces:

There's a whole forum of people who H8 Mud

Installed a modified body amour 4x4 hybrid bumper and chopped my front bumper. I'm still working on building the outer tube.

Also found this cap for a steal on FB marketplace, any idea what brand it is? The dude who was selling it didn't know as he bought it used as well

Bi-annual trip trail cleanup is done!

Love the truck in its current config. Running Nokian outpost NATs in the winter (31.5 inch) and cooper st maxxes in the summer (33 inch). Truck is still rocking 5100s and a simple AAL and kicks ass on the trails. I think I'll run them until they wear out and then upgrade to 6112/5160s, and a full rear spring pack. The cap is great, slept in the back for 4 nights so far and it's very convenient and feels safer in bear country.

No complaints and no problems at 151k on the odometer.

Truck is at 156k km, and I've swapped to my winter setup, a set of Nokian Outpost NATs on Toyota OEM Steelies. Full disclosure, Nokian sponsored a group I help out with (www.toyeclub.ca) at a car show, and gave the exhibitors free tires, and allowed us to keep them in exchange for running them during the show. My old Toyo G3 Ice snow tires were worn out, but these are 3 peak rated, and rated for snow use by Nokian themselves (who makes the best snow tires around, so I believe them). I ran them through 3 major snow storms, and they've been excellent, the best all terrains I've run in the snow, bar none. They of course, don't beat a dedicated snow tire- nothing does. They are far better than my slightly larger (255/85/16 cooper ST MAXXs vs 265/75/16 nokians) coopers in the snow, and match them offroad.

My plan is to run the coopers during the summer till they're bald, and at that point the nokians will have run down to the 50% mark, somewhere where I probably won't wanna them in snow or ice. At that point, I'll buy another set of dedicated snows and swap the Nokians onto my summer rims.

Any ways, as far as failures with the truck go, the only issue I've had since my last post is the lower eyelet on one of my rear 5100s has collapsed, and its rattling pretty good. I'll be replacing it soon enough, when I'm a little more flush with cash.

I used the generic winch mentioned previously to pull out a Suzuki Vitara that had been stuck in the woods 4 days. I then got myself stuck bad enough that I had to winch the front end of the truck in the air to be able to maneuver out of the really bad spot I was in. So, A+ from me so far.

Only thing I've really done to the truck since my last post is put it on its summers. Only driven it 6,000km in the last 4 months, lol. Final year of my degree is kicking my ass. Realistically, pretty happy with how it sits. I'd like to Raptor line the cap black, and build/buy a front bumper to fill it out. Pulled 8 people out of the ditch this winter with the winch. I have some eibach 600LB springs sitting in the closet to go on it, which will happen in the summer. One of my rear shocks has also developed a rattle, so those will get replaced with either another set of 5100s or considering 5160s. Dakar HD leaf pack is planned and then well, it'll be as done as any project ever is. 20250317_144722.jpg
