I have no honest idea, I've felt it before and it might be some kind of weld. It's hardened and has been like that since I got it

Any idea how to get it off? Blowtorch maybe? Replacing the line would be easy but that makes it an issue

Next step trying to find tht line

I’m not positive but bc the location is furthest to end of rack, my guess is that is return line
Follow hard line up to make sure
(Or maybe another member will confirm)

From what I can tell it's likely one of these steering rack lines

For a 2001 taco, if the rack has not been done yet, you might as well replace rack assembly. It's either on the way out, or it is the problem.

I've definitely considered it. I ran an experiment a few weeks ago where I ran trans tune through the system and it turned like butter though. At least while it still had fluid in it. Dust boots also aren't soaked, the grime is from oil filter leaks and power steering as far as I know

So what oil leaks do you have? Valve covers done yet?

By the way I'm a mechanic, with most of my experience being with Toyota trucks.

It wasn't actually either, just a defective filter. Based on dark edges at the valve covers I believe the valve covers have already been done, no moisture or leaking there as of today. I've been trying to get in contact with the previous owner to follow up on his repairs. So far the only leak I have left is power steering

That's cool btw, I'd love to become a toyota tech
