I bought this truck for my 15-year-old son to learn how to work on it and drive stick shift . It has a 3-in lift kit and a nice stereo from 2010. Has original Rockford Fosgate amps and little 8-in Subs. It has a borla exhaust and we are getting ready to modernize the entire interior. Going from a light blue interior with the 60/40 cloth seats to a gray interior with newer Tacoma leather seats and we will Fab up a center console and tie it into the stick shift trim with some 3D printed parts once we get that far.
    Good day gentlemen.

I helped my son by his first truck this past year. He found himself a 1996 Toyota Tacoma SR5 extended cab 4x4 and I believe it sits on a 3-in lift.

He turned 16 at the end of the month and is excited to start driving full-time. My question is the truck came with American racing rims with BF Goodrich 31x10.5 R15 tires.

I was thinking about getting him newer TRD Tacoma Wheels in black or bronze. With the addition of the 3-in lift kit what size of rims and tires should I put on this tacoma?

Currently we live in South Florida and the worst we get are wet roads. Occasionally he might go off into the dirt but mainly he'll be driving this on the road.

I have to say the current setup that he has for rims and tires totally suck in the rain. Because it's a stick shift if you give it too much gas in the right gear the rear end will get away from you a little bit. Just looking for some advice on picking the correct setup.

I will post more progress photos soon. so far he is removed all of the carpets and old stereo wiring and has installed a budget friendly system with component speakers in the doors, new speakers in the back with two amplifiers and two 8-in subwoofers. From there he installed all new carpet and padding as well as replace the door fabric on both doors.

At first I was apprehensive on him getting a stick shift but I'm glad he did because he's occupied driving and not texting and driving. He's a good kid and he's very cautious so I think he has this figured out.

We have been out practicing stick shift driving for months and he's been keeping an eye on how I drive the truck. What gears to be in while taking various turns etc.

Any input from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Steve and Korbin

In my totally biased opinion, these pre-facelift Tacoma's look great with Welds, bulletholes, steelies, etc. I had 3rd gen Tacoma wheels on my '96 and while they worked just fine, they just didn't suit the truck that well. I got my Raceline Rockcrushers second-hand for an absolute steal. Mine is also a manual, but I rarely find the rear-end kicking out unless I ask it to, and even then sometimes it refuses. I have Cooper Discoverer AT3-XLT's in 33x12.50R15 and they seem to do pretty well in the rain.

Btw, your truck looks killer with those color-matches flares. It's begging for some polished Welds!
