3 years ago I bought a hybrid raspberry bush that the berries are supposed to have a vanilla flavor. Planted it and groundhogs dug it up and ate it leaving a small bundle of roots.
Soaked the roots in water and planted in a small pot in the house, it grew back over the year it spent in the house.
Planted it outside again last year but it seemed to suffer extreme transplant shock and stayed basically dormant all year and even died back in the heat of Summer.
Winter was brutally cold and figured it must have finally died, but today I can see plenty of green sprouts coming from the ground, maybe it's finally going to be successful!

 

Give it some Quick-start. It will help with root growth and give it some easy to digest nutrients.

 

Applied mulch to blackberries, apples, and Azaleas. And compost to blue berries and cherries.

 

Azaleas are starting to form buds next is flowers.... @StayinStock

 

20 bags mulch and 5 bags compost/manure applied today.

 

Will Compost raise the PH level on the Blueberries? I just put some Peat Moss and pine wood shavings around mine yesterday.

 

Peat moss does raise the PH. Sam as pine bark or pine shavings.

 

Both are good for blueberries. If you have oak sawdust that is good as well.

 

You mean lower PH?

 

It will make the soil more acidic. Which, if my chemistry memory is correct, does lower the PH.

I live in Massachusetts. My beds are 6" tall x 4' x 10'. I would like to try to put something down to help hold in the moister and reduce the amount of weeds I get. Do you buy the pine shavings ? I have access to fresh wood chips from freshly ground up trees. Are the chips a good choice ? Thank you very much for taking the time to help me.

I buy shavings from Tractor supply. They compost in a year. Wood chips take 2 to 3 years to compost. Same thing, but different.
Add Soil Moist pearls at the 4" to 6" depth in the soil for water retention. They will work for several years. Add more as needed. 1/2 cup of water pearls will absorb 5 gallons of water. Let them sit in a bucket for 24 hrs before adding them to soil.
We use them for raised beds and trees.

 

@Barsoom Thank you, I think I am going to give the Pine Shavings a try. For putting it down,,,, would about 1/2" thick be about right ? As you can tell I am new to this part of gardening. Thank you.

We put them about 3/4" to an inch thick. After a few rains and waterings they settle down about 1/4" thick. Soil in out beds is about 2" below the lip of the bed. Basically, cover any exposed soil.
I am I Georgia, and there are summers when we do not have any rains from mid June till September. We are on the well, so water pearls and mulch stretch water from our rain barrels.

 

mrs. loves tomatoes. she bought this liitle cherry tomato last weekend. last year was my first time growing a tomato plant.

 

Wonder if those rocks affect the soil PH at all, was watching a video of a guy that made raised beds with cinder or cement blocks and his soil went very alkaline and nothing would grow.
