So I have had this issue before, but all I had to do was lube up the arm on the transmission that the shift cable is connected to. Unfortunately lubing it up is not working now. The truck was sitting for a couple months while I was replacing all the rusted brake lines so I think that arm on the trans itself has maybe rusted up.
I disconnected the cable from the shifter at that arm to make sure the cable was not seized up and the problem. I have lubed the arm on the trans with on blaster, white lithium, and even got some heat on it and it still won’t move. I took a hammer around the rusty arm trying to knock it loose. I rocked the truck back and forth thinking it might shake something loose, no dice.
Is there anything inside the trans that would stop it from going in gear? Any ideas would help

It's more likely the Transmission Range Switch on the other side of the transmission that is froze up, it is aluminum and they tend to corrode quite bad in areas where the roads are salted.

Perhaps a faulty safety interlock in the shifter?

nope, I can push that down and the shifter still won’t go anywhere. The cable just binds up

The truck’s not throwing any codes and even with a bad sensor you would be able to take the truck out of park from what I have researched

Not if the sensor is physically stuck.

Hey Lodan, I'm having the same issue. I know this post has been dormant a while, but did you ever figure it out? Thanks!

Loosen the nut that holds the range sensor to the transmission and see if you get some wiggle room. If yes the range sensor is physically stuck like mentioned above
