Just bought a 2022 trd sport and after a few longer drives noticed the rear suspension to feel pretty harsh with a somewhat jarring rebound. Got under the truck and saw this, should I be concerned? Any idea what might cause this uneven wear?

The shock is probably bent and from the amount of travel on that shock I would assume it has been bottomed out.

Put some Billie’s on and call it done. Rear shocks are easy on this. Just jack up the rear from the hitch to remove some tension on the bolts and then you should be able to remove and replace each side.

looks like a great reason to pick up a set of 5100s. As said, the back ones can be done in less than an hour.

did that anyway with my sport, improved the dampening a bit in the back too

Does this happen over any terrain? My 2019 is horrible over washboard fire roads. Horrible.

But yeah, toss on some 5100’s

The previous owner has probably been jumping whoops this is why it’s important to really check under a vehicle before you purchase.

5100s are so buttery smooth. I hit a few curbs and didn’t even notice lol

That shock has failed, all the hydraulic oil has/is slowly leaking out.

Thanks everyone! Yea I pretty much figured it was donezo. I did my best to inspect but must’ve missed that. Hopefully trying to get dealership to fix it, but if not I’ll do it myself. Thanks!!

I apologize if I came off wrong about the whoops and the inspection. You are absolutely right it’s hard to catch everything and it’s very possible the shock just failed and that’s what has caused it to bottom out. Enjoy your new ride and best of luck!

Can I just replace rears and run with the stock fronts or is it best to do em all? Fronts look fine

it’s fine, had that setup for the better part of a year before I changed the 2 front. I decided to do the fronts after the obvious improvement the two in the back made even through the stocks were fine. I waited till I replaced my tires about 8 more months before I did the two front so i could just get an alignment done for both purposes knowing I needed to anyway after taking the front suspension apart to do the fronts.

regardless…it will do fine just replacing the rears alone just not as good as it could be obviously.
