How do you replace upstream O2 sensors? 06’ 4.0

How do you replace both upstream O2 sensors? Seems to be impossible unless you remove the whole exhaust manifold.

 

Did you try laying on your back and looking up?

 

Yeah I tried that. No access from below either.

 

It can be done, you will likely need to invest in a flexible O2 sensor wrench/socket with a flex head wratchet.

 

With the right tools. And penetrant. Heat. Etc.

I laid atop the engine to do mine.

 

Thats easy, seen worse...
Put your big boy pants on....
Spray it with some pb blaster from the condition of that exhaust...
Your going to use the open end side of the wrench & hopefully she's not stuck...
find the right combination to get it on there...
if you cant get it loose, tighten it....
It will move way easier while attempting to tighten, the second you feel it budge, then back her out.

You have access right there in the pic, between the wire bellow & trans cooler lines....
You may need a short 7/8 wrench or a short 02 sensor specific crowsfoot & a fine tooth ratchet....

 

you can also unbolt the bracket to the wire harness / black corrugated wiring loom & push it out of the way to get more access...
But if you have no idea what end of a wrench to hold as if you round-off the end of the 02 sensor, in the long run it will just cost you more money than just paying someone to do it....
