ok so I've been thinking about adding a 2.5 inch lift to my truck and was getting ready to order the kit from rough country because I've had great luck with them in the past and then I started thinking about Drive shaft vibration and the angles changing. The only reason this came to mind is my sister has a 1999 Cherokee with a 3.5 inch lift and she has terrible vibration. Don't want this for my truck! She's only got 103,000 on her and I've spent a lot of time and money getting the truck back to looking like it did back in 2004!! Any advice or experience would be great

It's a 2wd 3.4 prerunner. I really want to do the lift everyone I've seen on YouTube and heard of in forums says it's a must to do if your into overlanding. That's more of what I do and not so much the mudding and that kinda thing. It's already been leveled in the front. Just needs a little more lift in my opinion. Just don't want any problems and regret lifting it

Look into coilovers. I think the Rough Country uses a block spacer to lift. This could make your ride stiff.

A lot of people run OME and Ebiach with blistein 5100 shocks.

Great thing with prerunners is you have no CV axles to destroy. 2-2.5" should be fine.

TRD Off Road sticker. Not the whole package, just the sticker.
Stay away from rough country. Not saying they are really bad, there is just better options. I put their lift on my truck a couple years back and have now replaced most of it with better quality parts. I hated how still it rode and wish I would have never waisted then money on the rough country kit. Get new leaf springs or lift shakes from old man emu or allpro. Get a set of ome or bilstein shocks and some OME springs. Also a diff drop kit will help a lot. You'll spend a little more money but will have a way better setup in the end.

Something I didn’t see mentioned is the upper ball joints. 2.5” is about all they will handle and you won’t have much downward travel (at least that was my experience). I upgraded to Camburg UCAs with a uni-ball.

Also agree with KnoxDavid34. There are better options than Rough Country for your Tacoma. I have OME Dakar springs w/Bilstein shock on the back. My truck came with Skyjacker front shock/spring combo (came on the truck) I’ll wait until it needs shocks then replace them with OME springs & Bilstein shocks on the front. The skyjacker set up gets the job done but rides terrible.

look at my build on my page.
    I have a 02 double cab 3.4L runner. 881s with 3/8 spacers on 5100s got me 3inches. I also got new UCAs.
I say get a full Old Man Emu setup, 881s with with 1/4inch spacer, dakars for the back.
at 2.5inch your upperballjoints will be maxed, but you'll be fine until you save up and upgrade the UCAs
Hit up @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc they can help you with a deal as well.
Good luck man! I love red tacos too lol

I didnt metion the uca's cuz I dont really think he'll need them. Only going 2.5", it's really not neccessary. They are a great impeovement and I wish I had a set of icon uca. But you can get away with out them and the extended travel. I've wheeled my truck over a year with stock ones and it's never held me back. Granted I will eventually buy some, but they are $700+ and I gotta find that money first. If he's already looking at a rough country lift, icon uca might not be in his budget.

Im planning on doing this too. Did you go with OME 881s or 883s in the front and did you get an extra leaf in the back?
